5.0 out of 5 stars I have used this many times to help people enter HAm radio., March 26, 1999
This review is from: Ride the Airwaves With Alfa & Zulu: Novice & No-Code Technician Amateur Radio License Manual (Paperback)
This is a great book for someone wanting to enter the World of Amateur Radio. Its non technical look belies its seriousness as a first rate learning tool to help people study for their entry Amateur Radio license.

I have used the first edition with 4 elementary school license classes, and with several adult classes. The reaction-Everyone who studied using the text passed.

It makes learning the radio theory easy and fun.

This tool is far more user friendly than others currently on the market.

I am now using the second edition for my school classes. What does that tell you? My students love it. It cuts throught the filler of the other texts. They can accomplish more with this text than any of the others.

Ideas for projects and activities can be seen on each page.

5.0 out of 5 stars "ALFA & ZULU" DID THE TRICK!, November 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ride the Airwaves With Alfa & Zulu: Novice & No-Code Technician Amateur Radio License Manual (Paperback)
I have just passed the Novice and No-Code Technician tests! Not only did I pass, but I got a perfect score on the Novice and only missed one on the Technician exams. I am a person who has had no electronic or radio background whatsoever! The book presented just the information I needed to know. I loved the information on one page and the questions on the next. My class was using a book that was very difficult to learn from, and without "ALFA & ZULU", I would have dropped out of the class and never looked back. My best friend took the test and passed as well. Again, it was thanks to "ALFA & ZULU"!

5.0 out of 5 stars Priceless Teaching Aid, May 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ride the Airwaves With Alfa & Zulu: Novice & No-Code Technician Amateur Radio License Manual (Paperback)
John Abbott hits the ball out of the park with his "ALFA & ZULU" books. We have successfully used these books for the Garland Amateur Radio Club's popular "Kid's Radio Class". We cannot say enough good things about this book. If someone is serious about teaching youngsters the joys and wonders of wireless communication, they will have a copy of this book handy. Also recommended: "Now You're Talking!" by the ARRL. Our radio club has found this to be a 5 star text for achieving the entry level amateur radio license.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps kids completely crazy for Ham radio, May 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ride the Airwaves With Alfa & Zulu: Novice & No-Code Technician Amateur Radio License Manual (Paperback)
I am using John's book in my classroom as a year long enhancement of my third grade curriculum. The student's love to work on each lesson. This is the homework they enjoy doing so much that many have gone ahead to finish the entire book! You should see the fantastic, unsolicited illustrations they have brought to class. It's a wonderful, engaging way to help kids become involved with this great hobby. THANKS, JOHN!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent way to get an amateur radio (ham) license., December 16, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Ride the Airwaves With Alfa & Zulu: Novice & No-Code Technician Amateur Radio License Manual (Paperback)
This is an excellent book that prepares one to pass the amateur radio test and get licensed. Many times introductory books tend to include too much and overwhelm the reader. This is especially true for the younger reader. This book is excellent in that it breaks down the mountain of info into easily digested cartoon-like lessons. It is also very good in that it gives some inexpensive suggestions on starting to enjoy your ham privleges after you get your license.

By A Customer
This review is from: Ride the Airwaves With Alfa & Zulu: Novice & No-Code Technician Amateur Radio License Manual (Paperback)
The cartoon character format and short, easy-to-understand lessons make this a great teaching tool. My fifth and sixth grade students are eager to complete the lessons and to learn all about amateur radio! It is an effective way to present information about a technical hobby and could be used by anyone new to amateur radio.
