Review

"I read the book while flying from Sydney to London. I couldn't stop laughing. Everyone kept looking at me as if I was mad" --James Wirth

Product Description

In February 2006 Jeremy Burfoot, a Qantas 747 Captain, and his friend Brad Burton rode their Seadoo personal watercraft (jet skis) around New Zealand. The men did the ride to help raise awareness of the dangers of skin cancer after Jeremy was diagnosed with a melanoma six months before. The journey took 19 days including 150 hours of riding to achieve and was 5,000km long. Along the way they visited 18 coastal cities and saw some of the most magnificent coastline in the world. The pair had to contend with giant seas, strong winds, a large shark and many other hazards. This is a historical story of an important record breaking event. It is the story of a mission to spread a message and the physical and logistical challenges that it entailed. As well as the ride the story includes interesting anecdotes and observations about the local geography and the history of New Zealand s coastline. The story is told in a relaxed and informal style that is entertaining, interesting and seriously funny.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok.......... but!, July 14, 2011

This review is from: The Ride Around New Zealand (Kindle Edition)
Two blokes ride jet skies around the coast of New Zealand to do it and bring the message regarding melenoma to New Zealanders. ok plot line adequately covered. Significant days of riding, skills and an excellent set of wave conditions descriptions were developed. But . . . . . . the digressions simply ruin the narative. Be it the constant tongue in cheek hand out request to sponsors of a drink, or the diatribe on rugby. These sections just did not need to be here and add nothing to what is a remarkable edventure story. Kindle version worked well and was the right price. So, an OK read ...... but. Cheers.

5.0 out of 5 stars very witty/funny writer that anyone considering a day trip or longer would find very useful, August 25, 2010

funny, insightful, account of a true adventure. Anyone considering a day trip or longer on a pwc will find it useful, as well as anyone planning and organizing any type of adventure requiring sponsors. I was surprised by how clever and witty the author was and it made what i thought would be a dry account very entertaining instead. I read it to gain knowledge regarding extended time in the ocean on a pwc and didn't expect to enjoy the writing style. Was pleasantly surprised.
