4.0 out of 5 stars If There Was Justice in the World of Music, December 12, 2002

This review is from: Ride Away From The World (Audio CD)
The Stone Coyotes would be widely recognized as one of the best bands in the world. Making music as American as anything ever made by Creedence Clearwater Revival combined with the energy of the early Clash, the band borrows from the best of country, rock, punk, folk and even heavy metal to make something both unique and yet very familiar. With "Ride Away" the band concocts a successful brew again, with even more range in styles, etc (with greater emphasis on acoustics) than in past recordings. I only give "Ride Away" 4 stars because it is not the astonishing suprise of "Church of the Falling Rain" certainly one the most unsung recordings of the last decade, if not the best in the US. It would be a real shame if this band couldn't get the exposure and support it deserves so I hope you will check out Ride Away and their other work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pennsylvania Coal Mine, January 10, 2004

I know of two songs about the Quecreek miners. The nostalgic, lame, cashing in faux-solemnity of the Buddy and Julie Miller cut - and this track by The Stone Coyotes - "Pennsylvania Coal Mine" is a song that celebrates the survival and heart of the miners and the effort of all to rescue them. With a lyric like "And when someday I die/and they lay me in the ground/my soul shall rise and it will be/the second time around" how can you go wrong?

Plain American Girl is the best damn song I ever heard also. Request it on an indie station, or just buy this CD, it has other great songs too. It's great rock music with lyrics that make you happy to think.

I love this band , and hope they hit it big. You could say they're the best woman-led rock band, but why? They're the best band working today. Period.

Barbara Keith has great pipes and plenty to say, and the the playin's good to. This is rock and roll the way it ought to be. Ride Away From The World feels like an album that went through a time warp to escape being ruined by present day big corporate record companies. This is the first Stone Coyotes album I've bought and it makes me want to hear more from them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another winner from the Stone Coyotes, April 18, 2003
This review is from: Ride Away From The World (Audio CD)
Another great record...an antidote to vapid, overproduced big label rock. Great lyrics, tight rhythms, swaggering guitar and one of best females voices in rock. Somebody said Patsy Cline meets AC/DC....it's true.

5.0 out of 5 stars if you need proof that somebody still knows rock..., January 23, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Ride Away From The World (Audio CD)
...then The Stone Coyotes are your band. It doesn't take long on this album to hear what this band is after - pure, uncensored, rock. This doesn't mean that they are copying some stale 70s arena sound or some rehashed new punk sound either. Barbara Keith writes material that ought to be taking over the airwaves - songs that are straight-forward enough to catch you, literate enough to make you wonder, and passionate enough to have you singing along in no time at all. They way you know that this is the real deal is when the songs slow down and the band STILL rocks - that's when you realize it isn't a tempo or a volume that is rock and roll, but a groove - one practiced almost to perfection in this band.
