the more linval the better,

Linval Thompson, yet another highly talented singer and producer from the tiny island called Jamaica, is represented nicely on this Blood and Fire compilation. His passionate voice and conscious lyrics combined with dread production values from heavyweights like Bunny Lee, Henry 'Junjo' Lawes as well as thompson himself create an outstanding retrospective of his Seventies output. Yet another sure-shot from Blood and Fire.

Linval was definitely a pioneer of Dancehall music. This album is by far one of the best collections of his music that I have ever found. Unfortunately he never got much acclaim in the states, but he is definitely a genre pioneer. If you like Tosh, Bob, or the Wailers you will enjoy this. He has an ultra calming voice, that provides excellent background music for a party or just relaxing. His lyrics are deep and free spirited.

This is a good overview of Linval Thompson's Bunny Lee material from the late '70s that reflects the rockers/steppers reggae sound of the era. Lots of extended mixes and rare cuts including "Don't Try to Rob I" -- which I've never seen on any other L. Thompson comp.

Linval Thompson has one of the greatest voices around. The remastering of this 30+ year old recording is excellent. As usual, my favorite reggae label Blood & Fire includes extensive interesting liner notes. All in all this is a wonderful roots reggae CD.

Linval is amazing! I can't believe there is only 1 other review for this CD! I own a huge reggae music collection and must say this CD is in my top 3 favorites. The basslines are wicked, the horns are hypnotic and the grooves are jammin! Highly recommended - you won't be disappointed!
