STORY BRIEF:
Pulse is a Shikar who can generate electricity. Shikars live below the earth's surface. They battle daemons to keep humans safe. He goes to the earth's surface to see if humans are good enough to care about and continue keeping safe. He meets Luna and is convinced humans are good. Luna sees bad events in the future. She lives in her car, moving from place to place. When she first arrives in a new town she has no visions for a couple of weeks. Then they start. She always goes to the scenes of the crimes trying to stop the bad events, but she always fails. When she sees Pulse on the street, she is drawn to him. He helps her stop an accident. This is the first time she has actually saved someone. He goes with her to a couple of other crime scenes and again stops damage before it happens. They fall in lust. He openly tells her about his world and takes her there for a visit.

REVIEWER'S OPINION:
I liked the idea that Luna is always brave trying to stop trouble because she knows she won't die unless it is freezing. The rest of the story was ok, but I wasn't drawn in enough. I've read better. Unfortunately the sex scenes were dull. I skimmed most of them which was unusual for me. The cover picture didn't match. Cover has a girl with dark hair to her armpits. Luna has long white-blond hair.

DATA:
Swearing language: strong. Sexual language: strong/erotic. Total number of sex scenes: 8 (1-7 pages long each). Setting: current day New York City and underneath the earth. Genre: erotic paranormal romance.

OTHER BOOKS:
For a list of my reviews of other Sherri L. King stories, see my 5 star review of "Bedtime, Playtime" posted 4-02-08. I gave 4 1/2 stars to her story Bachelorette in that anthology.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of Horde series, August 22, 2009

I love, love Sherri L. King's writing and this is the best of the Horde series. Lightning is the male character in this novel and is powerful, enigmatic and pretty delicious. King's explicit scenes are well-written as is the action in this book. For me, this is my favorite in this series because of those things and I really care about both the main characters and their connection. King is on my short-list of must read authors which also includes Jaid Black, Denise Agnew, Anya Bast, Leda Swan and Julia Templeton. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ride the Lightning, January 19, 2008
This review is from: Ride the Lightning (A Shikar Story) (Paperback)
Pulse has decided to travel to the Territories of Earth, searching for the reason of why they are fighting for humanity. As an Elder on the Council, it is his job to guide his people in the war. He needs to be reminded of why they are fighting to save such a self-destructive race. He hadn't realized the human world had changed; now he is determined to find out just how much.

Luna Boone has been cursed to see the very worst in humanity, the monsters that hide within everyone. Cursed with predictions that she can do nothing to prevent, doesn't stop her from trying¾which would explain why she is standing in front of the Times Square Hilton, waiting to prevent tragedy...until a man in black captures her attention.

Luna has never been able to change her predictions, but she knows that with Pulse's help, she can. The two decide to stay together¾Pulse wishing to stay with a woman that is so pure of heart, and Luna wanting to stay with a man that intrigues her. Only, they must act fast because Luna has had a premonition that Pulse would do anything to prevent...her death.

Ride the Lightning is a fast-paced, electric addition to the world of the Shikars. Pulse is incredibly appealing, so much so that Luna has trouble keeping her thoughts away from him. The seriousness of Luna's predictions are tempered by the quick-witted dialogue between these two and I loved their every interaction. The sex is hot, the Shikar is to-die-for and Ride The Lightning is one fabulous read.
