5.0 out of 5 stars The Chill One, December 29, 2005
This review is from: Ride the Rhythm (Audio CD)
"Motivation" "I'm shootin' my mouth. Cause suckas are shootable. I'm flauntin' my rhymes. Cause I'm black and it's beautiful." That was all it took for me to realize that Chill Rob G was Lyrical master. I personally put him behind Rakim and KRS-ONE.

This joint is beating the new jack rappers in the dirt. It goes from showing you, to being in court, riding that rhythm and letting the words flow and the beats with those horns are untouchable compared to todays somewhat same ol same ol. I just got the recent release and I am elated watch out for ultramagnetic mc's too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless, October 4, 2002

This review is from: Ride the Rhythm (Audio CD)
This is by far the best display of rhyme skills and social conscience rap ever recorded. Chill Rob captured the mood and feeling of all the young black college students during this time. This album serves as are anthem. Being young, intelligent and a black college student became cool again and Chill Rob's brilliance as a writer and beat-oligist will forever live on.
If you feel me, buy this album. WSU,UW t-boy,snack-snack,marly mal and brotha gill wadd-up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Classic From Da Crates, February 7, 2002
By
This review is from: Ride the Rhythm (Audio CD)
A definite hip-hop classic. This album is packed with hits including the infamous "Power," originally recorded first by G. before Snap ran away with the glory, the raw "Let Me Show You," and the powerhouse "Court's Now In Session." What's amazing is to hear an album that still sounds just as good today as it did when it was first released. And it's a shame to listen to an album like this that can still wipe out a lot of today's WHACK competition.

5.0 out of 5 stars "My voice is choice I'm one of the chosen", June 4, 2005
This review is from: Ride the Rhythm (Audio CD)
"I rap to make sure everything turns out perfect...as close as we can work it--to Perfection--fly girls, they give me an erection" or so Chill Rob G says on the title song "Ride The Rhythm". I bought this album when it first came out and was completely blown away! It's the only rap album I own today, it's all I need! I've memorized every rap! It's brings a powerful pro-God, anti-drug, anti-gay, politically incorrect message to it's listener. "If your a liar stay away cause I aint shoveling sh*t!" Actually, it may have been too in your face since Chill Rob G disappeared from radar until 2002 when he reappeared with "Imagine That" and "Bullsh*t" off "In The Red" CD. With raps like "they tried to keep me out the business, they tried to hold the nig*** back, Why? Could I be so dangerous?" You gotta wonder if he did receive threats from the Establishment. This is some hi-octane, highly flammable rap...buyer beware...purchase at your own risk!
Or you can pass on Rob G & continue to be-bop to bricks that drop, it's up to you!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Substance Spitter With A Knack For Complex Rhyme Cadences, May 15, 2011
This review is from: Ride the Rhythm (Audio CD)
What Jimi Hendrix was to the guitar is what Chill Rob G was to rhyme cadence. Complex, substantive, influential, and masterful. The 'Chill One' loves to dabble in rhyme arrangements. A lot of rappers nowadays are content with rhyming one syllable at the end of a bar with another one syllable word at the end of the next bar. Although it's not over the heads of a casual listener, it's a little elementary from a technical standpoint. If you want to know how a rapper can challenge themselves with complex arrangements then look no further than the show-stopper, "Court Is Now In Session". In the third verse, Chill Rob G will rhyme two words at the beginning of each bar and then rhyme the last word of a bar with the last word of the next bar. If I'm losing you then here's a part of the verse..., "It's a PITY the way the CITY treats the POOR/I got CONGRESSMEN COUNCILMEN tell me what are they FOR/ I Write them LETTERS BETTER I even give them a CALL/ But they kick back cool out in my city HALL/ I pay the TAX they MAXIN' but they ain't passin' OFF/ They try to BEAT ME they TREAT ME like they think that I'm SOFT/ Pure POWER the HOUR is later than you THINK/ While their SLEEPIN' I'm CREEPIN' cause I'm out on the BRINK/". Amazing. He basically rhymes two words early in the bar while the last word of the bar rhymes with the last word of the next bar for the whole verse while utilizing a broad vocab with a substantive message. The 45 King production is some of his finest. The album is filled with funky basslines, jazzy horns, and a contagious flute on "Court Is Now In Session" (Easily an all-time favorite of mine). It's a shame that there wasn't an early 90's follow up but I'm glad we at least have this. This is an album for any aspiring lyricist if they want to get an idea of how to "Let The Words Flow"!

4.0 out of 5 stars I Was Wrong, January 21, 2010
This review is from: Ride the Rhythm (Audio CD)
I have to admit, when this album came out 20 years ago I had slept on it. My brother would always tell me, "Yo, you don't know whatcha missing. Chill Rob is nice!" It wasn't until many years later that I learned to appreciate Chill Rob G's "Ride The Rhythm." I always thought "Wild Pitch" was a hot track but that was it. But after listening & digesting Chill's lyrics, this CD is a definite must have. Chill Rob G is one of those emcees that many of us under appreciate like O.C. Court Is Now In Session, Let Me Show You, Wild Pitch, Motivation, Let The Words Flow & yes the original I Got The Power are my favorites. Chill Rob G is like fine wine, he gets better & better with age.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't sleep on the title cut:, October 21, 2007

I know Let the words flow/The Power got all hype from this album, but don't get it twisted "Court is Now in Session" the cut is lyrical terrorism. G rips the mike and this cut should be given it's just due.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have classic for lyrical enthusiasts, September 22, 2007
This review is from: Ride the Rhythm (Audio CD)
I've been looking for this album for years. Classic hard beats with Chill Rob G's booming voice is an unbeatable combination. You can put this in the tape deck (back when it was released in '89 I had the tape) and never press fast forward. Must have if you're a self proclaimed hip hop junkie like myself.
