My spouse and I are retired. About 100 years ago, this was "OUR" favorite 'record'. We still have it and longed to hear it. With the CD, we now listen again and enjoy it even more. WE are thrilled !

Historically, there have been very few albums in my collection that are a WOW from start to finish, and this is definitely among those sainted few. Upon its release, I played this album until it sounded like bacon frying, so I was quite grateful to find it on CD! It holds up just as well now as it did back in those days of post-Tommy cinematic frenzy, with Roger roaring one moment and then muting into charming choir boy mode, exactly as to be expected from this most versatile of vocalists. "Get Your Love" blazes open this outing, leading right into my personal favorite track as Roger testifies his way through "Heart's Right." There's some very soulful wailing delivered on the gorgeous "Near To Surrender" and the rooster-strutting "Proud," returning Roger to his earlier days as the soul-singing Mod icon. For a lighter mood, there's some giddy fare with "World Over" and "Walking The Dog." A budding actor on the screen at the time, Daltrey provided the type of performance Who fans were already well familiar with on "Milk Train," his charming Cockney delivery aiding to endear the plight of the beleaguered songster this tune presents to us. And as if there had been any doubt that Roger could be an acceptable romantic crooner after years of selling Pete Townshend's more practical songs, we get both the lovely "Oceans Away" (which I recall him performing quite effectively on television), and a perfect closure with the lilting, melancholy "Born To Sing Your Song." The extra tracks are a nice touch, but I didn't need them to augment what was already a perfect album. He's the best he is at what he does: he's Roger Daltrey! Recognize!

This is easily my favorite of the Daltry solo projects. Roger clearly demonstrates his talents as a versitile vocalist. Unlike so many other musician's solo projects, Roger doesn't just rip off the band for a "quick buck." Nor does he try to make some statement like, "I am the Who!" He simply released some "soulful rock" that came from within. He was even able to come up with some commercial tracks to please the "suits," thereby ensuring future solo projects. My favorite tracks are,"Come and Get Your Love," and "Hearts Right." Pick this one up, you'll be glad you did.

Roger Daltrey is a defining vocalist in the history of rock music, but this second solo effort - released in July 1975 - failed to have the spark found in his incredible work with The Who.

Produced by Russ Ballard, who also plays guitar and keyboards, two singles were each issued in the USA and UK, with the American release of Come And Get Your Love doing the best, limping in at #68. The song - with a different B-side - did not chart in the UK.

The CD includes an outtake of Dear John and an alternate version of Oceans Away.

The album cover is a standout in this era of incredible artwork. But the music paints a picture of an artist who cannot rise above the uneven material he must interpret.

This is by far the worst solo album of any members of the Who. Daltrey's vocals are fine, but the songs are very lame. If you are interested in a good Who solo album, buy Entwistle's "Whistle Rymes" or Townshend's "Empty Glass".

This was Roger's most commercially successful solo album at #14 on the album charts, but it's not up to the standard of his two greatest, 'McVicar' and UARM, nor is it my fave of the handful of his solo albums I own currently. There are some great songs on it, like "Oceans Away," "Come and Get Your Love" (a fantastic opening track), and "I Was Born to Sing Your Song," but the rest of the tracks, for the most part, suffer not from bad vocals or a bad backing band but rather from bad lyrics. Most of them start out great, but the lyrics peter out into the same things repeated over and over, or the songs are never developed into anything beyond the initial fine start. And some of the songs, like "Heart-S Right," don't even have the saving grace of starting out in a very promising fashion; the lyrics are lame and mediocre to begin with. It's a solid work considering what could have been, since I've heard that most of the rest of Roger's solo albums consist of even more mediocre songs, but actually very sad to think about really. This man has one of the greatest and most versatile voices out there (and it's a wonder he's gone so long before age has finally begun to start to catch up with his fantastic voice), and then you listen to some of the lame or cheesy songs on this record; how could he make so many bad decisions about how to expend his natural vocal gifts, over and over again, wasting and squandering it on such tripe?!
