This review is from: Riders in the Sky: The Ghosts and Legends of Philmont Scout Ranch (Paperback)
This book is only 105 pages long (not the stated 128 pages); the type is very large and it is printed on cheap paper (nice cover though). You'll have to be really interested in Philmont if you want to believe you've gotten your money's worth. good stories.

This is an excellent book if you have lived and loved Philmont. Warning though!! If you have not been to philmont then you may not beleive some of the stories. I, for one, have seen some of the ghosts of philmont and have a few more that I would like to talk to Mike Connelly myself. Excellent book.TEX

not that good,

Mr. Connelly's self-professed "research" was all of 3 weeks, and it shows. The stories do not reflect the wealth of stories at Philmont. Additionally, when did Penitentes give up their centuries old legacy of Hispanic heritage and become Native Americans? Too many errors and slipshod production make this book one not worth having. There's a far better volume published in 2003 by a former staff member.

A Must Have for Phuture Trekkers,
This review is from: Riders in the Sky: The Ghosts and Legends of Philmont Scout Ranch (Paperback)
I've heard many of these stories from the staff at Philmont. There are many more here that I hadn't heard until I read the book.
This is a must have for anyone headed to Philmont that has an interest in this aspect of Philmont "Life". Use it as an unofficial addendum to your Philmont Treks book to add a few of Mr. Connelly's favorite haunts to your trek. '74 trekker '02 trekker '05 trekker

Go Scouts!!,

This review is from: Riders in the Sky: The Ghosts and Legends of Philmont Scout Ranch (Paperback)
I am enjoying re-reading Riders in the Sky. Coming from a family with a long Scouting history, this just adds more scouting stories to the collection. Some of my favorite memories of my dad are hearing his Scout stories and ghost stories around a camp fire. Riders in the Sky has a special place in my book collection. Thanks Michael Connelly for this interesting, and rather different, book. Not only history involved, but action, suspense and putting your imagination to work. Even though we are a Scout related family, I did not know about Philmont Scout Ranch until I read this book. See, always learning something new!! wkp

I did not see any of the ghosts, but the St James Hotel does have an aura and the employees think it is haunted. I am surprised the mountain lions haven't created more ghosts in the area. There were plenty of them in the hills.

Fun Reading,
This review is from: Riders in the Sky: The Ghosts and Legends of Philmont Scout Ranch (Paperback)
This book covers a vast array of Philmont ghost stories. I don't know whether they are true or made-up, but the book reminded me of a Urraca campfire.

Beware,

Those who think that they are getting "true" ghost stories will be disappointed. Those who think that they are getting stories from someone close to Philmont will also be disappointed. Some stories did come from those close to the ranch, but have an air of hand-me-down oral folklore instead of firsthand experiences.
