So Much for Genres...,

Well, I have yet to hear a bad album by these guys, and this one is no exception. Continuing boldly down the Rammstein meets Blind Guardian meets Finntroll path (just listen to Seemann), this cd just never gets old. Very clever guitar riffs, bass and drums, keys, but most of all the vocals. Everything is here, sung in English and German; death/black vox, clean singing, hardcore type shouts, chanting, even some awesome female vocals (Himmelskind, which also features a guitar solo right out of the Evergrey handbook only to go into a hardcore type breakdown, then into a furious blastbeat). Ok, I think you're getting the idea that this is quite unique. Oh, I can't forget the jazz trumpet on Schenk Mir Heut Nacht. Guitar solos, blastbeats, breakdowns, power metal riffs, synths, traditional instruments... Anyway, this could go on all day. If you're already a fan, this album easily matches, even surpasses, their earlier work. If you have yet to hear these crazy Germans, this or Samurai is a great place to start.Tracklist: 01 Friede Sei Mit Dir 02 Riders on the Storm 03 Seemann 04 Der Adler 05 Revolution 06 Wenn Ich Traume 07 Soldaten Dieser Erde 08 In the Land of White Horses 09 Liebe 10 Schenk Mir Heut Nacht 11 Himmelskind 12 Feuer 13 MMMH 14 Peace May Be with You (English version of Friede Sei Mit Dir)

Please import to the US!!,

One review was not enough; this album is first rate. At times heavy, at times melodic, it strikes a good balance between extremes. The vocals are gritty without being obnoxious, nor could they be said to possess the whininess of a band like Iron Maiden, as you might fear coming from a European, somewhat thrash style band. The Riders of the Apocalypse are solid; I'd give this album four and a half stars if I could. It's too bad they haven't developed a following here in the US.
