2.0 out of 5 stars A bit more R&D please.
I read many reviews on many different table saws. The Bosch 4100 gets the best review for best portable worksite type saws. I noticed that the Rigid R4510 got as good a review as the Bosch. I thought ok, I'll save $100.00 and buy the Rigid. I liked a lot of the features it had. I can see how it would rank right up there with Bosch. It seems to be pretty solid. Then I...

Better than expected. First I must say after reading 50 to 100 reviews I've determined that most people are brand diehards; you know a Chevy guy will almost always be a Chevy guy and a Ford guy will almost always stay a Ford guy. I started out thinking I would buy the Craftsman portable table saw with the built in router table, I checked out Makita, Bosch, Dewalt, Ryobi and a few others. However, after reading the reviews, checking out the jobsite saws in person and after watching the Ridgid 14648 demonstated on [...], I thought that was the saw I needed. Most of the reviews rated the Ridgid a notch better than the rest. I went to my local Home Depot and found that the Ridgid 14648 on display was not the model in the box so I went to all four HDs in my local area and none had a Ridgid 14648 in the box. So now what do I do? All the display models were missing pieces. Seems while I was searching others were buying. The R4510 had a different stand, tool storage and the blade guard. I also found that not all the boxed saws showed the blade guard and anti-kick back pawls nor listed them on the box. Well I found one HD that had one Ridgid R4510 left in stock, the week before they had two. Even the HD website said this model wasn't available and it had been two weeks before. Many websites listed this saw for about $695; a more popular price was $574 and one for $522. Home Depot had it for $499. I found that many people were listing this saw used for $499. I'm now glad I bought the Ridgid R4510.

Pros

1. The gravity-rise stand is very good; super easy to fold and unfold. I have a Delta gas assisted stand for my miter saw and I thought it was great but the Ridgid is "first rate". The left side of the stand also will support plywood when ripping it.
2. The right side of the table expands to 25", just lift the lever, slide the table out and push the locking lever back down.
3. The rip fence and blade were aligned right out of the box and the rip fence slides very smoothly.
4. Setup time: 15 minutes to read the manual and 5 minutes to put the rip fence, miter gage, push stick, blade guard and anti-kickback pawls on the saw. Oh! And five minutes to unbox the saw.
5. The R4510 has a split blade guard for bevel cuts, spreader/riving knives, push stick, and anti-kickback pawls.
6. The onboard tool and cord storage work great.
7. Has built in chip/dust collection port good for a shop vac.
8. The large wheels work great for a bumpy area.
9. Heavy enough to stay in place while ripping.
10. Send in the registration and it has a lifetime service warranty to the original purchaser.

I have been searching for about two months now, looking for the perfect saw. I narrowed my choices, ever so slowly, to two. The Bosch and the Ridgid.R4510. I went to Home Depot and Lowes to look at each one, and went back to each two times. Luckily the stores were within two minutes of each other. I closed them, opened them, played with the adjustments, extended the table, tilted the blade, disassembled and reassembled the guards (I think they are identical) and moved the fence. for the record, i did own the Bosch and loved it but someone loved it more and took it to their house, from mine. So, i had to get a replacement. I hope they catch the little bastard!!!!!!! i regress. The first thing i noticed was the fence on the Ridgid was much smoother. The fence on my Bosch always chattered as it was moved. The new one did the exact thing, which i found frustrating. The Ridgid was smooth and didn't bind at all. The ridgid also seemed to have a more secure lock. Oh, yeah, it also had a micro-adjustment which i thought was a good touch. Tilting the blade on the Ridgid was easy and smooth, you just pushed in the crank that raises the blade and it engages into a gear and you move it to the correct setting, with no effort. The Bosch had to be unlocked and it swung loose and you brought it to your desired setting and locked it in. Not accurate at all. They both seemed to be of equal quality. both had a crap blade. I thought the solid tires on the Ridgid were more of a logical choice rather than the phnumatic on the Bosch. I had to pump my Bosch tires a number of times. for some reason they lost pressure if you didn't use it for a while. Although i guess you could put some kind of sealer into the tire itself. I looked these saws up and down over and under making every comparison i could think of. I went into this with the mindset that i would buy the Bosch because it was $100.00 more and therefore had to be better. Well, i was wrong. It isn't. I am a very particular buyer and i buy quality tools, so my decision to buy the Ridgid even kind of surprised me. But, i have to be honest. THERE IS NO WAY THAT I COULD JUSTIFY IN MY MIND SPENDING AN ADDITIONAL ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS JUST BECAUSE THE SAW WAS BLUE. Nope. The value just was not justified. Also, and this is very important, the Ridgid is guaranteed for as long as you own it. So, i truly believe the Ridgid to be the better saw and the better value. I hope this helped you out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beating the bigger names, April 11, 2010

This review is from: Ridgid R4510 Heavy-Duty Portable Table Saw with Stand (Tools & Home Improvement)
I'm a carpenter by trade and do everything from frame to finish. I've had experience with the Dewalt, Bosch, and Rigid portable table saws.

The dewalt I've used (dont remember the model number) had a small table and an archaic fence adjustment that required you to turn a knob that moved the fence by way of a gear on a track (hard to even explain). It was prone to the opposide side of the fence skipping a toothe and becoming misaligned. Plus it was slow to do.

The Bosch was a good saw, had a great stand, and overall was well thought out. It's only downfall is that it is bit light. I know, I know, light weight should be a plus right!? Well we all like our shop table saws because mass makes accuracy eaiser. I'm still (kinda) young so I don't mind a bit of extra weight if it means a better cut.

The Rigid saw is every bit as good as the Bosch, with a slightly larger table and consequently a bit more mass to boot. Also, at least from HD, it's cheaper too.

One thing I have not tried on the others but I know is a problem on the Rigid is, If you are making your own throat plate, the saw blade will not recess deep enough into the body. (this is hard for me to explain..) After you've cut your plate so that it fits in it's place on the saw, you want to bring the blade all the way down, turn on the saw, and let the blade cut the slot as you raise it back up... make sense? OK. You can't quite do that with a 10" blade on this saw. You'll have to put on an 8" blade, make the cut, then switch back or whathaveyou.

Oh, it's also annoying that none of the stands these saws come with have 10" or 12" wheels. The stock wheels won't roll over stairs. So unless you modify your stand you should use two people to safely carry it over finished stair treads. I have managed to awkwardly pull it up stairs without scraping the frame on them, but on some jobs it's far to risky.

Ultimately, if the Bosch and Rigid saws were the same price I'd still go Rigid (no pun intended). If the Bosch were $50 less, then I'd really have to think about it...

5.0 out of 5 stars wow, this saw blew me away, December 20, 2009
This review is from: Ridgid R4510 Heavy-Duty Portable Table Saw with Stand (Tools & Home Improvement)
let me start by saying I don't own the ridgid 2410, I have the 4520, an upgraded version of the 2410 but I don't think ridgid sells the older version shown in this add any more. Even on their web site they list this saw, but not the new 4520. Well any way, the new saw really blew me away. I have owned everything from a cheap skill bench top saw to a twelve thousand dollar panel saw (grizzly). This is the first table saw that was ready to cut, right out of the box. No tuning needed. Just replace the cheap rip blade they include any you are good to go. I bought mine at the home depot for $499 with zero interest on their card for 6 months. I thought I was getting the 2410 like the one on display, but this is the new model released just this summer. Didn'T know until I opened the box and boy what a surprise. The differences include better storage for the fence, it goes inside the body of the table saw. a much better safety guard. The exact same one that is on the bosch, which was the only plus for the bosch over the older model ridgid. (usually I throw away the guard as soon as I unpack the saw, but not this one, definitely worth using when I have a helper or homeowner on the site. Lots of power, great rip capacity, about 25 1/2 inches. also everything but blade change is tooless and stored onboard (it takes 2 wrenches to change the blade and they are both stored onboard along with space for saw blades). Oh, and the stand is an exact copy of the bosch, it opens and closes in one easy move. Nice heavy duty top and saw body. Also the saw castings look significant. The only thing that I think won't last is the tape measure for reading the rip fence setting, and maybe the sliding mechanism on the front fence rail. The first can be done away with, a regular tape measure is not as convenient, but works, and the latter could be repaired or even upgraded if damaged due to misuse. I'm a firm believer in keeping chop saws and table saws bolted to these types of stands. Seems they take less abuse in transit unlike loose tools that are easily thrown into the back of trucks. For someone who is use to festool and fein, I can't say enough about this table saw.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am in love with this saw; my wife is jealous..., October 17, 2009
This review is from: Ridgid R4510 Heavy-Duty Portable Table Saw with Stand (Tools & Home Improvement)
My last table saw was the one I used with my Dad; it was a solid cast-iron saw made circa 1970. Although it didn't have bells and whistles, it was very very solid and served us well. When considering purchase of a new saw, I did not want to spend $1000 on a decent cabinet saw, but I couldn't bring myself to buy some plastic bargain saw for $250. After searching and searching, I came across this saw, and read the reviews. The stand and rip capacity are really what sold me on it.

I picked mine up today at Home Depot for $499, and it is a dream. The stand is absolutely fantastic, and it collapses, sets up, and moves about my uneven shop floor with ultimate ease. Initital setup of the saw from the time I opened the box (without calibrating...I was too excited) was about 10 minutes; most of those 10 minutes were spent reading a few pages in the manual.

I've played around with the saw for about 3 hours now. I cut through pine, spruce, pressure treated pine, cherry, sugar maple, and white oak. Although I had to go a bit slower on the hardwoods, it didn't have much trouble cutting the full 3 1/8" depth. I also started ripping through a bunch of logs that I have from a sugar maple that I had to take down this past summer; the lumber I got from them is gorgeous. The The height adjustment is very smooth, and the miter adjustment is awesome.

If I had anything bad to say, it's that the saw didn't come with a bag for the dust port. No worries though, I just stole the one from my miter saw until I get a chance to hook up a shop vac. Also, I wish that the cutting depth was a little deeper. However, these are very minor things.

5.0 out of 5 stars Handyman, August 19, 2009
This review is from: Ridgid R4510 Heavy-Duty Portable Table Saw with Stand (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this saw at Home Depot. It is the best tool I have ever owned and I have owned a lot of tools. I had one table saw before this one and had watched others for years before eventually having the money to spend on a good one. This saw is very well built and operates smoothly with no vibration. And when you add on the ease of portability it was just too good to pass up. I can roll it out and have it set up in minutes. The only other saw that comes close to this one is a Bosch at Lowes. But it was more money and same features so I bought the Rigid at Home Depot. Don't know why this saw is not available at Amazon at this time. You won't find a better table saw. You could find an equal in the Bosch for more money. The only thing that could possible keep this saw from being a success for Rigid is that it's price is a bit much for most people and they end up buying something cheaper like I had to do for years. But this saw is the best for it's price range. You won't regret buying it unless your kids had to go hungry to get it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great portable table saw, November 8, 2010
This review is from: Ridgid R4510 Heavy-Duty Portable Table Saw with Stand (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is a great portable table saw. It cuts exceptionally well for a smaller saw. If you are hoping for the performance of a full size cabinet saw, but can only afford a smaller model, then this is the way to go. I have taken mine all over the country working on different jobs. Even with thousands of miles of travel, getting bumped around and beat up, it has only required minimal adjustment. I was not a "ridgid guy" before I bought this saw, and used to think that ridgid was a less than quality brand name. I was wrong; this saw stands strong with all the top quality manufacturers.

This review is from: Ridgid R4510 Heavy-Duty Portable Table Saw with Stand (Tools & Home Improvement)
I've had this saw about a year now, and am very pleased with it. Cutting mostly softwoods; pine, which the saw handles with ease. The fence rule (mounted tape measurer)works like a charm - - and is accurate down to 1/64 of an inch. No more measuring the fence to blade distance with my tape and guessing how much more to add for the kerf, as with my old Craftsman table saw. The Rigid fence to kerf measurement is spot-on! I really appreciate the collapsability of the unit, as my garage has a lot of tools and floor space is a premium. But I can tuck the Rigid in a spot and occupy a minimum of floor space. I really like this saw!

I'm a trim carpenter in California and purchased this table saw to work with. I shopped around for a good portable saw to replace my worn out saw and found that the Ridgid was the best buy. It's durable, light weight and the ease of operation were the greatest deciding factors. I use it almost daily and it performs great. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to haul around a big bulky shop saw. This one is very portable and easy to set up in minutes.

I've been using the TS2400 for about 2 years for my many DIY projects and this saw has been a rare case (for me) of absolutely no buyer's remorse. You know how sometimes you buy something expensive and soon realize it's not exactly what you needed, or there's a better option on the market that you didn't know about soon enough? Not so with this saw, I've been completely happy with it. It's well-designed, as far as features and ease of use, and well put together. The fence slides smoothly, locks solid, and is very accurate and straight. T-slots in the fence for featherboards, excellent feature. (Although I do wish there were similar slots in the table). Blade adjustments are smooth and easy. Easy to set up and take down (I have the 2400, which is the original cart shown in the picture here on the day this was written; the 2410 is the same saw but on the new gravity-rise cart, which is actually a better cart than the one I have). If you have limited storage space like me, or need a *good* saw that you can haul around (not a cheesy little bench-topper), this Ridgid is tops on the market.
