The kids give Barney a car as a gift, and they all go for a spin, running errands to the cleaners, the car wash, and a gas station. How to balance chores and fun is the theme here, and it's effectively done. --Tom Keogh

From the Back Cover

With the help of their imaginations, the children surprise Barney with his very own car! Barney offers to take Shawn, Kathy, Min, Kenneth and Carlos for a car ride. But first he needs to run a few errands - to the car wash, cleaners, gas station, and even Shawn's Snappy Snacks drive-through. The car ride was worth the wait, though, as Barney and the children have a great time singing their favorite Barney songs along with the radio!

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this one!, December 30, 1999
By A Customer
This is one of my very favorite "Barney & Friends" episodes. It has some of my all-time favorite characters: Barney, Shawn, Kathy, Carlos, and Min, and it's a great show all around. Barney imagines how much fun it would be to drive a car, so the kids decide to make him one. While Kathy and Shawn distract Barney in the classroom, Min and Carlos build the car. After that, they surprise Barney with the car. Barney promises to take them for a ride after he goes to a few places first--the car wash, dry cleaner's, library, Shawn's Snappy Snacks, and the gas station. Then, the kids go on a ride in the car with Barney, and they have fun listening to music on the radio. I recommend this show to any Barney lover! It's great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Barney's New Car, November 11, 2004
A Kid's Review
This is a great movie about how to get around in a car. It helps your child use his or her imagination as Barney goes to the car wash, the cleaners, the library, and Shawn's Snappy Snacks. In the beginning of the video, the children get an idea to make Barney a car. Shawn makes license plates that say "Barney" and "I Love You". Kathy makes a litter bag for Barney so he can put his trash in it. While Shawn and Kathy make equipment for Barney's car, Min and Carlos make the car out on the playground. Go to fun places outside of the house with your child and they'll use their imagination as you run errands or take them places in your car.

5.0 out of 5 stars Riding with Barney!!, September 21, 2004

(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
This is a classic video from "Barney and Friends," and it's just not just devoted to music and dancing. There's a lot of teaching going on, like in the beginning where the kids want to give Barney a gift, so they pre-occupy him so that they can build one for him. Don't get too excited if it isn't the same car which is featured on the cover of the video. The real one in the video is homemade, but it's a lot of fun, too.

What happens throughout the video is that Barney teaches safe driving habits, like obeying the red and green traffic lights, and buckling up with the seatbelt, as well as having fun riding in cars. He makes several trips in his car to the gas station, the library, and a snack food place (kinda like McDonald's), which the kids can relate to, as well as any family with a car.

All in all, the music is wonderful and memorable, with such favorites as "The Wheels on the Car," "Mr. Sun," and a dozen or more others. A great video for any family collection, and highly recommended!!!
