Book Description

April 1, 2002

For many people, a day on horseback is a day in heaven. The relationship between rider and horse is unique, and the bond enduring. For New Zealanders, with their close ties to the land, the horse is particularly special, as Philip Holden reveals in this fascinating book.

Riding Country travels from the far north of New Zealand to the deep south and features all types of horse lovers and their animals. From traditional farmers to rodeo cowboys, polo ponies and the wild horses of the North Island, all appear here with stunning photographs and moving anecdotes. Throughout Riding Country New Zealand's pioneer history is deftly interwoven with the stories, making this a book for all to enjoy.

Philip Holden lives in Queenstown, New Zealand and has worked on several sheep and cattle stations where he spent most of his days on horseback. He is the author of over forty books.
