5.0 out of 5 stars Very good book
I read this book during a book study class at my church. It provided a lot of insight that really spoke to me. I had always thought I could handle stress by control or sheer will. Now I jump on the dragon and enjoy the ride. Life will happen, it is up to us to decide whether it happens with us or in spite of us! God bless you all.

5.0 out of 5 stars I needed this, April 22, 2006

This review is from: Riding the Dragon: 10 Lessons for Inner Strength in Challenging Times (Paperback)
I read this last year and several others by Dr. Wicks. It helps me to know that I am not the only one going through these things. I try to help people and then forget to take care of myself. This book shows us how we can live both sides of the coin best.

This review is from: Riding the Dragon: 10 Lessons for Inner Strength in Challenging Times (Paperback)
I belong to a small women's discussion group and this book is our recent topic. I sometimes don't buy every book they read because I'm unemployed and money is tight, plus I'm a book hoarder! But after just sharing one of the chapters (I missed the first few) I was so impressed with the practical, sympathetic style of the author's voice, that I ordered the book that day. I found that the first chapter was more than I had expected because I could really relate to what he had gone through with trouble at work, disappointing his family, etc. that it is making the rest of the book more "real" for me. He shows how he dealt with self-doubt and depression and even self-hatred at times, and how he coped and didn't give up. In these tough economic times, even if you have lost a job merely because of downsizing, especially if you're (like me) not that young anymore, it may be easy to be too hard on yourself which, of course, only makes those job interviews that much tougher; how can you sell yourself if you question whether you would hire you? This book gives you hope and things to do that are practical and simple to bolster your ego and your confidence. And, it's small & easy to carry with!
