Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Above the jungles slopes of Mount Bosavi, an airplane circles, its wings flashing in the equatorial sun. Descending to within feet of the treetops, it skims toward a clearing in the forest -- then suddenly, from its cockpit, a small, bright object tumbles earthward . . . a can of paint. It is followed by another. And another. Call it the ultimate in special delivery. The Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) takes the gospel far beyond where the highway ends; the paint will help initiate contact with a newly discovered tribe in the hinterlands of Papua New Guinea. It's all in a day's work for Max Meyers -- work he would trade for nothing else. What, after all, could ever equal the rewards of flying the good news of Christ's Kingdom to the world's rim? In Riding the Heavens, Meyers shares with you unforgettable slices from his forty years as a missionary pilot: Moonrise at 35,000 feet in the cockpit of a jet fighter; medical help administered at arrow point; a night in a jungle lean-to with a cannibal-turned evangelist . . . this is no Hollywood script. It's the remarkable, true memoirs of a man who has known the drama, the humor, the tragedies, and the life-changing power of missions like few people ever know them. Sit in the pilot's seat and taste the panic of a mid-air "explosion -- and the comic relief that follows when you discover its source. Gaze across the expanse of mud that has buried a jungle village, including the missionary family who were your friends. Hold the hand of a dying boy and see him smile at you as he slips into the loving arms of Jesus. And discover, above all, the faithfulness of the God of Jeshurun, "who rides on the heavens to help you, and on the clouds in his majesty." (Deut. 33:26) Riding the Heavens is a book of incredible adventures that will fuel your hunger to know God more deeply and experience his power and presence in your life.

This review is from: Riding the Heavens (Hardcover)
What a fantastic book this is and one I will always keep. Full of stories that will keep you on the edge of your of your seat as you see our awesome Lord work to build His kingdom all over the world. I am reading this book aloud to my children. We have had the joy of supporting Mission Aviation Fellowship and this made the desire even stronger. We have upped our monthly giving after reading it. Thank you for writing it Max. As John MacArthur has said about money, "You can't take it with you but you can send it ahead."
