Another Exciting, Sexy Wild Rider Story!, April 7, 2009
This review is from: Riding on Instinct (Mass Market Paperback)
The Wild Rider hero in this story is the seeming rabidly confirmed bachelor `Spencer King', who has prided himself on choosing women he can love and leave with no strings attached. That is until he finds himself drawn to "Shadoe Grayson", a Justice Department Agent assigned to work with Spence and fellow Wild Rider agents Paxton and AJ. The mission is to ascertain the identity of a rogue DEA agent who is passing information to the Columbians about drug seizure operations at the port in New Orleans.
The Justice Department suspects that the rogue agent is using a high-end strip club in New Orleans as a base of operations. The Wild Riders team and Shadoe are assigned to go undercover at the club to identify the agent and catch him passing intelligence information to the Columbians.
When Spencer initially meets Shadoe he is immediately skeptical of her abilities. She appears an "uptight", prim and proper woman who will never be able to pull off her undercover role as a stripper at the club. Spencer however, is sorely mistaken as Shadoe proves to have a brilliant mind (she has a photographic memory), and assumes her undercover role with chameleon like efficiency.
Spencer plays the role of Shadoe's bodyguard and boyfriend at the club for the duration of the assignment and he finds himself inexorably drawn to her. Shadoe is witty, sexy and confident. While she has had to compete in a man's world to earn her position in the Justice Department and suppress her sexuality, it certainly bubbles to surface because of the nature of her undercover role as a stripper and because of her burgeoning interest in Spence.
This is a love story about two kindred spirits, damaged by childhood trauma, who find each other. However both are dedicated to their jobs and are determined to part ways at the end of what turns out to be a harrowing assignment. Spencer is particularly reluctant to become emotionally involved and when he begins to have feelings for Shadoe, his automatic reaction is to reject her. I felt so relieved when he finally lets down his emotional barrier and a firestorm of pent up sexual tension is released between them. The love scenes penned between Shadoe and Spence are extremely intense and erotic, these two enjoy "outdoor experiences".
More information about "Wild Rider", agents Paxton and AJ, is also given to readers in this novel. These two are best friends, and how can I put it, share EVERYTHING. I sure hope there is a fourth Wild Rider novel because now I really, really want to read their story. Paxton and AJ are funny, totally efficient as Wild Rider agents and very alpha.
The mission is suspenseful and thrilling as the agents infiltrate the bar, identify the rogue agent and are caught in the crossfire during a vintage "Wild Rider" climax to the story. I was surprised by the identity of the contact for the rogue agent.
Shadoe and Spencer remain committed to their jobs with different government agencies and continue to plan to return to those positions at the close of the mission. I was left on pins and needles until the last chapter wondering if these two lovers were going to have their HEA. However, I always keep in mind that this is a Jaci Burton novel and she always pens great HEA's for our heroine and hero! In this case, it is totally HOT....
"Riding On Instinct", is another Jaci Burton novel that has found it's way to my keeper shelf and I know I will be reading it again.

The wait is over!, April 10, 2009
This review is from: Riding on Instinct (Mass Market Paperback)
Finally Spence's story is out! I'm a huge fan of Jaci Burton and I absolutely love her Wild Rider's series. I have to say I thought it would be hard to top Diaz and Jesse's story, but MS Burton certainly has! Spence was quite intriguing in Riding Temptation so I impatiently awaited his story in Riding on Instinct. So far this book is my favorite in the series. Spence is a brooding alpha male who clearly does not back down in any situation. Shadoe Grayson is defintely his match. What I loved about this story was Shadoe's strength. Keeping in character with both of the female leads in the other two books of the series, Shadoe is not a wimpy female dependant on men. Despite the fact she seemed a pampered princess growing up she had a rough childhood, as did Spence which bonds them on this mission. Without knowing it or understanding it fully, Spence is sucked in to a relationship with this woman. He thinks it's just sex yet every encounter between them is so much more. Shadoe is a self assured woman even though she seems a little hesitant with the stripping part of her undercover work, she more than proves she has the "chops" to handle any assignment.
In this story we see more of AJ and Pax and hopefully (please, please, PLEASE) they will get their own story from Jaci Burton soon. The undercover work in this story is excellent--a good brain teaser on who the bad guy is and how they will bring them down keeps you intrigued. Not that you need to keep intrigued as the sex really keeps you turning every page to see just what and where Shadoe and Spence will explore next.
If you like alpha males and equally strong women, with passionate encounters and suspense thrown in to boot, you need to read this book as well as the other two Wild Rider's books.
Jaci Burton is a keeper author for me and I'm sure this book will be re-read repeatedly.

One can only fall in love with the Wild Riders, November 29, 2009
This review is from: Riding on Instinct (Mass Market Paperback)
RIDING ON INSTINCT is the third installement of Ms. Burton fantastic and intriguing Wild Rider series and although you can read this book as a stand-alone I recommend to read the other books, Riding Temptation and Riding Wild, too, not only to understand the Wild Riders better but also for pure reading fun.
In RIDING ON INSTINCT it is time for Spencer King to say goodbye to his bachelorhood, because he meets his match in Department of Justice agent Shadoe Grayson. Spence is to work together with her on an undercover mission to identify a rogue DEA agent in a strip club. For Shadoe this means to pose as a stripper, something that she has never done before and also something that Spence thinks she isn't able to do, because she reminds him more of a prim schoolteacher than a stripper and from the first moment on, the sparks are flying between them. Those two are just too much alike and it becomes a battle of wills between them, but they can't deny their attraction.
What I loved in this book was the interaction and relationship between Spence and Shadoe. It is like those two wounded souls wait their whole life to become one and heal each other.
Another aspect which I really like is that the whole book is unpredictable, because you never know what will happen next and you will be absolutely sucked into the story. I read the book in one session because I couldn't put it down. So take your time when you start with this book. I have been a long time fan of Ms. Burton and the Wild Rider books are on the top of my favorite book list.
If you are looking for a hot and fascinating book, I can highly recommend RIDING ON INSTINCT. I can hardly wait to read the next book of this series.
