Amazon.com Review
Founded in 1756, Austria's Riedel Crystal is the world's premier manufacturer of wine glasses. The Vinum series of glasses are made of over 24-percent lead crystal and were the first machine-made glasses to be specifically designed for a particular grape varietal. The six tasting glasses in this set are intended for evaluating a variety of wines at a professional tasting. The unique hollow stem design acts as a measurer and holds 5/8 ounce or two sips of wine (one to judge the taste and one to confirm)--the ideal amount for tasting. The bowls of these glasses have a wider opening for comfortable sipping without tilting the head all the way back. The bowls also offer completely balanced sipping by simultaneously sending wine to the front of the tongue to highlight the fruit and toward the back and sides of the mouth to emphasize the wine's acidity. The bowl's larger volume provides more space for wine to aerate, making aromas more intense than in a differently shaped glass. Tilting the glasses to a horizontal position provides the best aeration, and the design stops wine 1/2-inch from the rims to keep it from spilling. Each glass stands 6-3/8 inches tall and holds a maximum capacity of 14-7/8 ounces of wine. Currently awaiting a patent, these glasses are sure to be the new standard for unbiased wine judging.

Product Description
Exclusively based on the characteristics of reasonable price, quality and wide distribution, the Riedel Vinum series was introduced in 1986 and has since had a permanent impact on the world's wine glass culture. This beautiful tasting glass is the perfect way to new wines, with its specially designed shape to enhance the flavor. Each piece is machine-blown of premium 24-percent lead crystal to combine the brilliance and clarity of fine crystal with a welcomed affordability that makes it perfect for everyday use.
The Riedel Tasting Glass serves the same purpose as the I.N.A.O. glass, while improving several aspects of judging wine. The additional value of the glass is to measure precisely the amount of wine poured by filling the hollow stem. Swirling the wine in the glass enables evaluation of the "nose". Unfortunately, in a conventional glass, only half the possible surface is reached by the liquid to show aroma intensity. To maximize the aeration space in the Riedel Tasting Glass, lower the glass gently into a horizontal position. The wine will flow from the hollow stem to fill the bowl to just half an inch below the rim. Because of its shape, no wine will be spilled. A 360-degree "rolling" rotation will then create a very thin layer of wine on the complete inner surface of the bowl, maximizing the evaporation surface and detailed olfactory information. The available quantity of wine is sufficient for two sips: the first to evaluate the wine and the second to confirm the evaluation. The distribution of the wine flow is guided mainly to the front part of the tongue, emphasizing the fruit. The delivery to the sides and back of the tongue accentuates acidity and the bitter components, allowing the wine to show all its flavors in a harmonious and balanced way.
Nobody knows Wine like Riedel. From stemware to decanters, Riedel crystal is prized for it's quality and the way it enhances the enjoyment of fine beverages.
