5.0 out of 5 stars Big Glass for a Big Red
This is a very nice wine glass and the biggest red wine glass I have owned. It is significantly larger (28oz vs 22oz, about an inch taller and has a wider bowl) than the Riedel Vinum Red Wine Glasses I own. Personally, it is not as comfortable to hold due to the very large size. Also, be very careful hand washing all Riedel Red Wine Glasses as not to twist off the stem...

3.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money!
My recent purchase of Riedel Cabernet glasses was a disappointment. I found they did not live up to all the hype about Riedel glasses. They were ok... but they did add to the taste or enjoyment of my wine

Other wine glasses were just as good, especially my Waterford Marquis glasses. In fact, they were more stylish and better balanced in my hand. Waterford...

Personally, it is not as comfortable to hold due to the very large size. Also, be very careful hand washing all Riedel Red Wine Glasses as not to twist off the stem. I've done it twice when I thought I was being careful. My recommendation - skip the 'Vinum Extreme' line, stick with the 'Vinum' line.

These are my first set of wine glasses, and though expensive compared to sets sold by Ikea, these Riedels are worth the price. I experienced aromas from my usual wine selections that I've never knew were there before. Since receiving these glasses a few months ago, I had the displeasure of drinking wines from glasses of lower quality in restaurants. There was an older review on Amazon from someone who said he brought his Riedel glass to a wine tasting event and I felt like doing the same, but unfortunately, that wouldn't make sense on a regular basis. I am happy with my purchase and I would rather put up with the risk of breaking one and getting the most out of my wines than buying some cheap stock Ikea glasses and not know what I'm missing.

I attended a party some years back and the host opened some wines that had people oohing and aahhing. This party opened up a whole new world to me which was unexpected. The host's brother, who had worked at Columbia Winery in Washington State, saw I had been poured some of this prized wine from the host's cellar and was drinking it from a smallish wine glass of dubious ancestry. He asked what I thought of the wine, which I replied was delicious, and he brought one of the host's Riedel glasses to me. I was asked to taste it in the ordinary glass and then taste it after pouring it into the Riedel. I was skeptical and thought he was a real wine snob. But when I followed his suggestion it was almost as if I was drinking two different wines and the Riedel glass clearly brought out the best of the wine.

I asked for a set of the Pinot Noir/Burgundy glasses that Christmas, a set of Chardonnay the following Christmas and now I'm buying myself a set of the Cabernet/Merlot glasses as a New Year's present.

You will not regret the expense of these glasses once you sip something tasty from them. And you may find that people who don't know of these glasses or the reason for them may snicker as I did the first time I saw the size of them. Just buy them and enjoy and do for any skeptics what the party's host's brother did for me those years ago. Do a side by side test with the same wine in ordinary wine glass and a Riedel. Maybe they will be swayed like I was and then become a student of wines.

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll never drink from another glass again., March 22, 2007

Mr. Reidel is a genius. He has custom shaped each wine glass to complement every different wine imaginable. Your wine will never taste as good as when it's in a Riedel glass. Even those sale brands taste expensive when cradled in this fine crystal basinette. You'll never drink from another glass again.

I bought these for my father-in-law who drinks the same type of merlot every night. He called to tell me the glasses are wonderful, because he said they made his wine taste better! I told him about Riedel and that he invented tailoring glasses to the type of wine. I was amazed he could actually taste a difference!

5.0 out of 5 stars Vinum Extreme Cab glasses, April 19, 2008

If you drink good wine, you need a good wineglass. The Riedel Vinum Extreme is an elegant wineglass, with a thin lip to focus your attention on the wine, a large bowl for swirling and to collect the wines vapors, and a simple design. Riedel is the gold standard in stemware.
If you are drinking wine to get your girlfriend drunk, stemware from Bed, Bath, and Beyond will suffice. For the epicure, the Riedel Vinum series is well worth the investment.

As they say-you get what you pay for. These are great glasses for cabernet; they allow you to enjoy the bouquet besides just the taste of the wine.

This is the second set of Riedel glasses we've purchased. We were naysayers when other wine drinkers told us how much better our cabs would be in cabernet-specific glasses. We're believers now. Riedel lives up to its reputation as THE wine glass to buy, as far as were concerned. We've never enjoyed our cabs as much as we do now.
