Product Description

Size: Ouverture Magnum

Perfect for everyday use and an amazing value at 8 glasses for the price of 6, the eight extra-large red-wine glasses in this set are part of the moderately priced Ouverture series offered by world-renowned wineglass maker Riedel Crystal. Made of lead-free crystal and machine blown, these glasses are dishwasher-safe. Their thin rims are cut and polished to Riedel's exacting standards, so wine flows easily onto the palate. Each glass stands 7-7/8 inches high, and their large bowls help release the wine's aroma for full enjoyment. Though glasses shaped and sized for different types of wine seem a tradition today, Riedel was the pioneer of this revolutionary concept, which has created a lasting effect on the globe's wine culture.

I like the shorter stems.

It's impossible to explain but a good red wine really does seem better from a Riedel glass.

When I first started drinking wine a decade ago, I thought it'd be kind of cool to buy a bunch of different wine glasses. You know the drill: smallish ones for white wines, bigger ones for reds, humongous ones for Bordeaux, insanely large fishbowl-esque ones for Burgundy, and so on and so forth. Although it's nice to whip out the big fancy ones for a special occasion, I find myself returning to the Riedel Overture Magnum glasses again and again and again. Why? For one, they're big enough to allow for some mighty swirling without splashing wine all over yourself (which is embarrassing). They're also durable enough to stand up to (ahem) drunken handling during boisterous dinner parties and/or hungover washing up the morning after. They've survived the dishwasher a couple of dozen times and still look good; they seem to do just fine with any kind of wine (except for dessert wines - if you start pouring half bottles into these things, you run out too quickly). In short, these are the glasses you'll wind up using nearly every time you drink wine. Don't worry about those ridiculous "Nebbiolo only" or whatever glasses that cost the earth and are more fragile than Kanye West's ego - just grab a set of these and get down to drinking. You won't regret it.

These glasses are the perfect size for any wine. They are sturdy but still have a nice thinness to the lip. The stems are a little shorter than expected, but overall these glasses are a great value. My only complaint is with the packaging: Amazon really needs to beef it up to ship something so breakable. I have ordered these for myself and as a gift, and both times the box has arrived with several totally destroyed glasses. If you order these, expect to make a return or order two boxes at a time so you can mix-and-match the intact glasses and return a box full of glass shards.

8 High quality wine glasses for $60 including shipping? Great value. Solid all around glass for sure...stems are a tad shorter than I expected so if you're looking for that "expensive" tall stem look vs. a more utilitarian purpose, then look for something else. I wanted 8 so I could have the same glasses for a party and not freak about them breaking.

They are very sturdy and the short stem makes them even sturdier.

Good heft, not too flimsy or too heavy and a great size for swirling. Best price around and well packed for shipping.

After hearing my brother rave about the Riedel brand of higher priced glasses, I wanted a set of everyday glasses for mostly reds. Not thinking he could get a good set of Reidel's for the "price point", he purchased me 8 glasses from Target for @$80. Those quickly were returned for this set of 8 Riedel Ouverture Red Wine glasses for my "everyday" wine glasses. Yes, they are for "red wine", but I've enjoyed a few whites out of them as well with no complants. Overall, I'd rate this as a must buy for someone looking for an oversized/large everyday wine glass. In fact we like them so much, I just purchased a set for my brother-in-law and his fiance for Christmas. Ignore the 2 star rating, as they also raved about them as well in their review!

We are amateur winemakers and avid wine drinkers. We love these glasses and have used them for years as our "every day" glasses. We put them in the dishwasher (albeit a bit carefully) and use them when we have friends and winemakers over for wine-related events. We have tried, and own many Reidel wannabes. While Reidel makes nicer glasses, which we also use, when you balance cost with ease of cleaning and storing for every-day wine, these are our favorites.... by far.

The Reidel Ouverture Magnum Red Wine Glasses arrived on the date promised and are exactly what we expected and needed. The Ouverture series is a less expensive version of the more delicate Vinum and other high end Reidel produts, but doesn't skimp on quality and finish.

The bases are a little thicker and more durable, for everyday use at our beach house, but the bowls are ample and similar in delicate thinness to the very high-end glasses.

They will get a lot of use!! Great price!!!

The nice size means you can swirl your wine around inside the bowl without fear of spilling, and they just feel really nice in your hand. My only objection is that they are not perfectly convenient in that they are too tall to fit in the top rack of my dishwasher-- so when I'm feeling lazy I can't just stick my used glass in there instead of washing it by hand. They're still my favorite wine glass, just for how they feel in your hand and how they show off whatever wine you're sipping. Somehow you want to stick your nose in that big bowl more often and notice the scents and flavor of whatever you're having with more attention. I originally bought these glasses just because they were the exact same shape as those used in a wine course I was watching on DVD, but I use them all the time now because they're a pleasure to use.
