5.0 out of 5 stars Great gift for a wine lover.
This will give your wine-loving friend a lot more pleasure than some over-wrought corkscrew. A great deal of your experience of wine comes from the aromas that develop in the air above the surface of the wine. A glass that forces the wine to have a large surface area for its volume and then narrows to concentrate the vapors will increase the flavor experience. Glasses...

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy from Winestuff
I ordered the Reidel O stemless cabernet tumblers with gift tube, set of 4, from Winestuff. When I received my order, they were boxed in sets of 2, in normal boxes, not tubes. When I called Winestuff, they said the tubes were discontinued. They never called me to ask if I wanted another packaging in place of the tubes. They said - oh it must have been an oversight on...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gift for a wine lover., December 31, 2007
This will give your wine-loving friend a lot more pleasure than some over-wrought corkscrew. A great deal of your experience of wine comes from the aromas that develop in the air above the surface of the wine. A glass that forces the wine to have a large surface area for its volume and then narrows to concentrate the vapors will increase the flavor experience. Glasses with a thin lip seem to interfere less with the taste of wine than thicker (and cheaper) glasses. The shape of the glass makes a difference, too. Since we can only smell molecules that are in the air, the best wine-tasting glass is going to promote evaporation by exposing the largest possible surface area to the air. These glasses are wide at the waist and narrow at the top to get more from their wine. Does it make a difference? You bet-and in every taste test that I've been part of, Riedel glasses win hands down.

(For more information on the factors that effect the taste of wine-Storage, Air, Temperature, Food and Context, see New Short Course in Wine,The)

The wine simple tastes better in these glasses. The red wine Ouverture glasses are as close to an all-purpose glass as any and they're very inexpensive.
It shouldn't be necessary to mention that a wine glass should be clean and odorless. But sometimes restaurants, in their zeal to make their glassware clean use rinsing aids that leave behind a strong mineral smell. If you're spending a lot of money on a bottle of wine in a restaurant, sniff the empty glass first. At home, a film of grease can settle on a previously clean glass. It's no reflection on the quality of the housekeeping-cooking fats disperse in the air and settle on everything in a kitchen. An additional rinsing and a wipe with a clean towel are all you need.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous wine glasses, March 28, 2009
These glasses are great. I have given many as gifts, but never got any for us. Finally I did, and I am so glad. We don't have to worry with them tipping over due to the stem. We have kids and this is a problem. Plus they fit into the dishwasher better. They are a great weight, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Wine Glass for Large Hands, June 2, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The light weight crystal is elegant. They are very nice red wine glasses, marketed for Pinot. We use them for any red wine and really like them. However, we both have large hands. These glasses would be too large to hold in one hand for a petite person or anyone having small hands. We probably would have gotten the next smaller size if we would have realize this. Otherwise, they work well and look chic.

When I called Winestuff, they said the tubes were discontinued. They never called me to ask if I wanted another packaging in place of the tubes. They said - oh it must have been an oversight on our part and they were happy to let me return the glasses. That's not the point. There is a specific reason why I wanted the tubes! Why are they advertising a product that is discontinued? I will not order from Winestuff again. There are plenty of other places out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strong, beautiful, useful., April 30, 2010
This review is from: Riedel, Set of 4 in Gift Tube (Kitchen)
I had a pair of these for a couple of years and really liked being able to put them in the dishwasher, so when our stemmed glasses got thinned out due to breakage, I ordered 8 more of these - with the 4 for 3 promotion on the set of two, this is a really good deal. They were packed well and all arrived intact.

5.0 out of 5 stars Check please., January 11, 2010

These glasses are delicate, yet strong. I don't know if they improve the taste of the wine, but they are nice glasses non-the-less.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect gift, December 23, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased these tumblers in a gift tube, it makes for a great surprise when someone receives such unexpected packaging. The tumblers are very pretty and very trendy right now. For me, they are just practical, no worrying about the stem, especially in the dishwasher. It's a great gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gift for the wine lover, January 17, 2009
One of the things I like about the "O" series is that it is lead free. This Chardonnay set comes in a cool tube and will make a great gift for my friend who loves whites.
