5.0 out of 5 stars Good, May 24, 2010
This review is from: Riedel Sommeliers Series Martini Glass, Packed in a Gift Tube (Kitchen)
These glasses are pricey. That they are hand blown rather than machine made is nice, but it also makes them extremely delicate. I have broken four already (one at a time). Unfortunately, if you seek a happy medium between a shallow martini glass that barely holds any liquid and the current trend of oversize martini glasses that hold 8 ounces or more of liquid (which is alcoholism-inducing), this is one of the very few glasses that is perfectly proportioned, with clean beautiful lines, and a nice weight-feel in the hand. The only other glass I've found about this size (a tad smaller)with beautiful lines and a very nice weight-feel in the hand is the Orrefors Intermezzo Blue Dot Martini glass. It's a couple of dollars less expensive than this Reidel and it actually feels slightly less delicate, although I've broken two of those as well over the past few months, so perhaps not. Beyond these two, you will probably need to get a smaller glass or one that is quite a bit larger. To my mind, though, these two glasses are the ones to beat. I collect martini glasses and own about 30 different styles. These two are my favorites, with the Riedel enjoying pride of place.

I've yet to find a finer looking cocktail glass. A friend who doesn't even like martinis asked me to make one for him after seeing one in this glass. It looks that clean and perfect.

Love this glass! The thin rim makes sipping my martini a pleasure. Very light and elegant. Too bad I'm such a klutz and break one every six months or so - they are delicate, yet that's the attraction for me.

I received my martini glasses today at noon. They looked nice. This evening, at coctail hour, I tried them out. I could not be more pleased. Expensive, yes, but absolutely worth the price. I love them. They look fragile and probably are. But when I inevitably break the first one I will immediately replace it. They are that good. Any martini served in this glass is automatically better. The feel, the balance, the clarity, all make for a wonderful martini glass.
