Renowned Austrian glassmaker Riedel designs the shape of each glass to most fully enhance the appreciation of the wine within. These two cognac glasses are designed in the classic balloon shape with short stems, the better to cup the bowl in the hand for warming fine cognac or brandy. The large bowl and narrow rim diameter captures and wafts the bouquet toward the nose. Beautifully balanced with just the right mixture of delicacy and stability, each glass stands six inches tall and holds nearly 30 ounces at full capacity. The set makes a superb gift for the cognac connoisseur.

Made in Bavaria of more than 24 percent lead crystal for superb brilliance and clarity, Vinum wine glasses are nevertheless affordable because they are machine-made rather than mouth-blown. Since its introduction in 1986, the popular Vinum collection has grown to contain nearly two dozen different glasses. While all Vinum glassware is dishwasher-safe, Riedel recommends washing the crystal by hand to prevent detergent residue that can affect wine taste. --Ann Bieri

These Riedel Cognac/Brandy snifters are made of 24-percent lead crystal. The bulbous balloon-style bowl on each glass is specifically shaped for drinkers to cup the bottom and warm the brandy or cognac with one hand. Coupled with the narrower rim on the glass, the bowl is also designed to waft the liquor's aroma to the nose with each sip. These glasses come in a set of 2, stand 6 inches tall, and hold a generous 29-5/8 ounces at full capacity.

These glasses are not inexpensive, but they are large, a nice weight, not too thick, fit well in your hands, feel almost elegant, and perfect for a winter's night cognac.

As with every Riedel glass I've ever owned, these are fantastic. A good cognac deserves a good glass, and these absolutely add to the experience. They are not cheap, but they are solid and well made, and certainly worth the money.
