Renowned Austrian glassmaker Riedel designs the shape of each glass to most fully enhance the appreciation of the liquid within. While many connoisseurs still prefer a large balloon glass for brandy and cognac, Riedel has determined the shape of its cognac glass to be most harmonious. Each glass features a gently rounded yet tall bowl, providing less surface area for evaporation and thus a more delicate aroma. The flared lip helps directs the distilled wine to the proper zone of the palate. Beautifully balanced and with just the right mixture of delicacy and stability, each cognac glass stands 7-1/4 inches tall and holds 6-3/4 ounces at full capacity. The set makes a superb wedding gift or adds to an existing collection for the serious wine and spirits drinker.
Comprised of more than 24 percent lead crystal for superb brilliance and clarity, Vinum stems and cocktail glasses are nevertheless affordable because they are machine-made rather than mouth-blown. Riedel introduced the popular Vinum line in 1986 and this particular glass in 1998. While all Vinum glassware is dishwasher-safe, Riedel recommends washing the crystal by hand to prevent detergent residue that can affect wine taste. --Ann Bieri

I've recently been reintroducing myself to brandy, having focused my attention over the last years on wine and whiskies. When I noticed my glassware had a huge hole in it--no brandy snifter--I did some research and discovered that snifters hadn't been taken seriously by cognac lovers for a long time. Too much surface area means too much alcohol in the nose and much of the fruit from the cognac is lost in the burn.
The glasses have been every bit as perfect for brandy and cognac as advertised and they are easily the most beautiful glasses in an extensive collection. They're even gorgeous when they're empty (although better with cognac, of course).

The proper glass is important to me. This shape seems more sensible than the large bowl type I used to use. I have enjoyed using this new shaped and smaller glass.
