4.0 out of 5 stars Old school martini glasses
At 5 ounces and change, these glasses are about right for a strong drink. Given the conical shape, you either need to have the balance of a tightrope walker or leave some space at the top. It's not uncommon to find 10 ounce martini glasses these days, but the larger size leads to warm drinks and inebriated drinkers. The larger glasses are also much harder to balance on...

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor packaging
Both Amazon and Riedel did a poor job in packaging these glasses, so two sets arrived with broken stems. Riedel merely wrapped the glasses in paper and stuffed them in a sauvignon blanc box. Amazon placed this poorly packed box into another box without adequate padding. They did this twice. Amazon declined to send a second replacement so I never had the pleasure of...

The larger glasses are also much harder to balance on tables or in your hand. Speaking of balance, I find the Riedel stems a little tall for my taste; I like a little more Thin Man and a little less James Bond in my martini glass shape.

As these are crystal, be careful washing them. Abrasive scrubby pads, the dishwasher, or even gritty towels will leave them scratched.

Martini tip I learned at my current job's cocktail parties: Dip the glasses in water and freeze in the freezer. Freeze your favorite gin (or vodka or whatever) in the freezer (the aim is to make it viscous when poured). Chill the vermouth and olives (or twist) in the fridge. When ready to serve, drop in olive, then vermouth (to cover the olive in my opinion, but it's your call) and finally gin. Stir (the classic technique, despite James Bond's heresy) and voila, a perfectly chilled martini with a minimum of hassle.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE martini glass, December 4, 2005
This review is from: Riedel Vinum Martini Glasses, Set of 6 (Kitchen)
these glasses are THE martini glasses. old school, yes - but the right martini should be about 4 oz volume-wise. we're talking a strong, properly made drink. these new-fangled glasses that hold 10 oz - WTF? no good. and a martini glass should be pure, simple clear glass. do not buy glasses for any liquor that are colored - the point is to see the color of what you are drinking - this is true for cocktails as well as wine. get these glasses because they are what martini glasses should be.

Amazon placed this poorly packed box into another box without adequate padding. They did this twice. Amazon declined to send a second replacement so I never had the pleasure of testing them out. I love my other Riedel stemware bought at brick-and-mortar stores.

5.0 out of 5 stars Martini glasses, July 10, 2006
This review is from: Riedel Vinum Martini Glasses, Set of 6 (Kitchen)
These glasses are superb in quality and appearance. The purchaser should be aware that they are of the smaller type of martini glass, more the original size, rather than the wide mouth styles you see in some stores today.

Reidel once again has designed glassware with classic sophistication. Whether you use these martini glasses for fine cocktail parties or an after work drink, you will have the perfect palette to create the cocktail of your dreams.

(on a practical note they are extremely durable & you look good holding one)

5.0 out of 5 stars uncertain satisfaction, June 11, 2001

The quality of the product was excellent and the picks were charming. As I was shining one of the glasses the stem broke at the base of the glass. Now I have an incomplete set. I am willing to pay for a single glass to complete my set or will except one on the chance it was faulty.

1.0 out of 5 stars DON'T ORDER THIS FROM AMAZON!!!!, October 9, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Riedel Vinum Martini Glasses, Set of 6 (Kitchen)
Unless you want to wait over a month to get your product, don't bother placing an order for the Riedel Vinum Martini glasses through Amazon. The shipping reads the set will ship in 1-2 weeks. I ordered my set on Sept. 5 and they still haven't shipped. Not very truthful to customers, in my opinion. I would love to tell you if the glasses are any good or not, but Amazon seems to be holding mine hostage. I will come back with a review of them as soon as I receive them, but please keep in mind it might not be until 2004...
