Vitis stands tall in the Riedel stable, literally. These glasses are the tallest made by the renowned and continually innovative glassware company. Introduced in spring 2007, Vitis (which means "vine" in Latin) is a bold, oversized extension of Riedel's Vinum Extreme collection, designed with a modern diamond-shape bowl. Both are machine-made of full-lead crystal, but Vitis stems go a step further-they are pulled from a single piece of glass, resulting in a spectacular fluidity. The bowl actually extends down into the tapered stem in a tear-drop fashion, which means the wine itself creates the lower point of the diamond.
Riedel designs the shape of each glass to enhance the wine within. The narrow diamond shape of the Vitis Champagne flute, with its generous 11-1/4-ounce capacity, enables the even release of bubbles in any sparkling wine and captures the aromatic bouquet. In addition, the 10-1/4-inch height of the two flutes in this set adds a sense of drama to toasting a special event. Brilliant and beautifully balanced, Vitis crystal comes in a handsome Riedel box and makes a superb gift for the wine connoisseur or for anyone starting or adding to a wine glass collection. Our family rates Amazon 5/5 except for this one order. We ordered 8 sets of Riedel Vitis Champagne Glass, Set of 2 per box. These were sent from a secondary supplier, Sold by: Westview Traders Inc. When we opened the box, only 1 set was the Vitis line (retails for about $80 for 2) and the other 7 sets were of the Discount mall line Riedel (retails for about 2 for $35). I could not reach the Westview Traders after being referred to them by Amazon help line. Westview operates without a phone it appears. I know that Amazon was not at fault--but Amazon is responsible for the quality of their secondary suppliers. One must be wary anymore when you order Riedel glasses since they now come in at least 4 levels (SOMMELIER, Vitis, Vinum, Cuvee, and Kmart). Watch out for substitutions! Even when ordering from a quality outfit like Amazon

The Vitus champagne glasses are so lovely to drink out of; vertical tasting with other glasses (including the vinum champagne flutes) show how fantastically these improve the flavour and overall drinking experience when drinking sparkling wines.
