Product Description

Amazon.com

The Vinum collection from renowned Austrian glassmaker Riedel gives serious wine drinkers an extensive choice of moderately priced crystal, each glass designed especially to enhance a particular wine. Modest in size at 8-1/4 inches in height and with a capacity of 13 ounces, this glass is unusual in that it can be used for both a red Chianti and a white Riesling, or even a sparkling Vouvray. The set of two Vinum glasses makes a beautiful gift for a new couple, or will nicely augment an existing wine glass collection.

Though comprised of more than 24 percent lead crystal, which lends superb brilliance and clarity, Vinum glasses are affordable because they are machine-made. In fact, Vinum is the first machine-made line dedicated to Riedel's philosophy of shaping and sizing a glass to suit the wine within. While dishwasher-safe, Vinum crystal is best washed by hand to prevent detergent residue that can affect wine taste. --Ann Bieri

Product Description

The size and shape of these Riedel Zinfandel/Riesling glasses command attention with their multi-functional nature. Perfect for Zinfandel, Chianti Classico and Sangiovese, as well as Riesling, Vouvray and Gruner Veltliner, these glasses sit proudly in the ever popular Riedel Vinum collection. Introduced in 1986, the Riedel Vinum line was the first machine-made series of glasses in history to be based exclusively on the characteristics of grape varietals. The Vinum series has had a strong and permanent impact on the wine glass culture around the globe. These glasses have proven to consumers and restauranteurs that the pleasure of consuming wines starts with the glass. Developed by 10th generation Georg Riedel on the principle that the contents commands the shape, Vinum is great for everyday use. These glasses are made with over 24% lead crystal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Champagne Also February 8, 2010
These fragile wine glasses are the finest in the world at anywhere near this price point. You must be extremely careful when cleaning these glasses; as some have noted, the stems are thin and so is the bowl, so don't try sticking your big mitts inside to dry them.
This glass is also the best glass for champagne/sparkling wine. In France, the winemakers in the Champagne region themselves rarely use the "flute" shape so common in America. As with all wines, champagne needs space for the aromas to be released, and the typical "flute" is too narrow to (gently) swirl the wine. Yes, you should swirl your champagne! It will not make the bubbles dissipate, unless you go overboard and try to emulate a tornado! These glasses are the perfect size, and enhance the bouquet much better than ANY "flute" (hence the use in the winemakers cellars, where the ability to evaluate potential flaws in the wine's aroma is paramount).

This size was recommended to me as part of a Wine Immersion class. It is perfect for wine tastings as you want to use a consist size glass for this purpose... A Great Choice if you want to select only one glass size. GrapeStone Concepts.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as nice as other riedel products received October 24, 2012

These are nice, but they look like "seconds", not as nice as the other riedel glasses we have purchased over the years, and not quite the same size as other riedel chiani glasses...they work fine when we just use the two of them, but when we have more out you can see the difference.

Yes, it does make a difference. They are very delicate, not for the dishwasher. Can make a middle of the road wine better.

These wine glasses are definitely Riedel. They came in the original box and have all the correct markings for Riedel glassware. I'm anxious to try a Riesling in them. Read more
