4.0 out of 5 stars Dirty Little Secret, April 20, 2008
By
Gaberman (Southern Oregon) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rien (Audio CD)
I know a secret about this Faust CD. All of the music on this CD was composed by Jim O'Rourke the producer. From what I understand he painstakingly took all the disappointing "jam session" source tapes sent to him by the band and completely altered and reconstructed them into his vision of what a Faust record "should" sound like. He literally created every sound and drum beat from the tapes they gave him but what you have here, from a composition standpoint sounds nothing like the original tapes. Basically, Rien ended up being Jim O'Rourke's tribute (and gift) to the heroes of his youth.

4.0 out of 5 stars Faust - 'Rien' (Table Of The Elements), February 2, 2006
This review is from: Rien (Audio CD)
Wow!After a twenty-year hibernation, the German krautrock pioneers Faust come out with an all-new release(featuring two original members).I tell you,I personally thought 'Rien' was good, for a comeback effort anyway. The opener title cut "Rien" is a fourteen-second snippet of dead silence.Tracks here I got the most out of were "Eroberung Der Still,Teil II" and "Long Distance Calls In The Desert",which features some of that trademark experimental kraut/noisy drone that Faust is known for.Hard to make of the untitled track 5,which lasts fifteen minutes. It's decent,my guess is maybe they're attempting to reminisce the band's very early works.Recommended.
