A horse lover's dream come true!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Rien Poortvliet's Horses (Hardcover)
This amazing book arrived today, and I sat down and read it from cover to cover completely, happily transfixed. If you know horses and love them or know a friend who does, give this book to yourself or your friend. The illustrations are simply breathtaking and the text filled with humor, wonder and love

A precious gift for any horse lover,

This review is from: Rien Poortvliet's Horses (Hardcover)
I have bought five copies of this lovely art book. Each one I have ended up giving as a special gift to a horse lover. I am ordering one as a wedding gift now...that will make six purchases. Someday, I'll have supplied all those lucky people with one and keep one for myself.

Experience this book through your imagination. The illustrations tell more of the story than the written words. This book was given to me by my horse's first veterinarian who knows, that from time to time I need a 'horse fix'. I lost my best friend in '97. This book brings back memories of him. If you show a horse a kind hand, you will have a friend for life and this book proves it.

If you have never seen a Poortvliet book you can have no idea how enjoyable they are. Even if you just page through one, you won't get it. At first it looks like the pictures are nice and the words are too few to be worthwhile reading. But spend a moment to really look and think about just one page... you will be a forever fan.
Poortvliet had a superpower: he had an incredible ability to draw anything he saw, but it was better than that because he could add his thoughts to his drawing. He painted his miniature horse, and then he imagined it with zebra stripes and put that on paper too. That means everyone could see his imagination. He drew every tiny detail that was important with easy confidence, and then just faded out the rest, poof! Imagine if you could capture the simple, golden moments in your life: the sunlight in the yard, touching a horse's mane, the laughter of your children. Poortvliet could, and he did it so extensively you can't help feeling that you knew him and his gentle humour personally, and that he made each book just for you. Is it an art book? A history book? A museum of Poortvliet's Holland? A journal? Just musings? It is all of that combined, and yet nothing but an afternoon's meander. Any Poortvliet book is a most highly recommended treat. |
