This review is from: Ries: Piano Concerto 'Abschieds - Concerto Von English' (Farewell To London), Op. 132 (MP3 Download)
I first heard the Variations on the song "Rule Britannia" on my car radio and was so impressed that I simply had to add it to my music library. It comes with the Piano Concerto N° 7, Op.132 "Farewell to England" and forms a really beautiful introduction - for me - to the music of Ferdinand Ries who was a pupil, secretary, copyist and eventually a life long friend of Beethoven.Ries' music is somewhere between the late Classic and early Romantic eras, and while reminiscent of Beethoven seems not to possess the "darkness" of Beethoven's later years. Ries spent some eleven years in England and wrote the N°. 7 concerto prior to retiring to Germany with his English wife. This is also my first recording of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic orchestra and Christopher Hinterluber, Piano and I can thoroughly recommend this to you.

This review is from: Ries: Piano Concerto, Op. 132 'Farewell to England' (Audio CD)
Great piano concerto by Another composer from the Mozart/Beethoven era in addition to several others such as Hummel, Herz, Bache, Kalkbrener and Mocheles which became available during the last several years. Pianist Christopher Hinterhuber's performance is terrific. Highly recommended for any classical music lover.
