JOHN WAYNE THEMES,
By "stepdad" (St. Peters, MO United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: My Rifle, My Pony and Me (Western Movies Songs) (Audio CD)
This CD is a must-have for anyone who considers themselves a Duke fan. I loved the brief intro by John Wayne to the title track and was surprised to hear the exact rendition of the song as in the movie. Other classics include The Alamo, Searchers, Sons of Katie Elder, etc. Not to be ignored are some good television themes (Palladin) and some unintentionally humorous songs (Lorne Greene sings "Bonanza"). I also thoroughly enjoy the Sons of the Pioneers with Roy Rogers. All in all, a very fun CD for playing on a Friday afternoon at work!

Bring back the yesteryear,
By
This review is from: My Rifle, My Pony and Me (Western Movies Songs) (Audio CD)
When I saw the title, I immediately recalled the Ricky Nelson - Dean Martin duet in "Rio Bravo" as they were held up in the sheriff's office with trusty Walter Brennan and you know who, John Wayne. This CD brings back many, many memories, when Westerns were King of the small or silver screen.
Whether it's Johnny Horton's "North to Alaska" or Marty Robbin's "Ballad of the Alamo", you can sit back and hear Frankie Laine's "Rawhide" and "Gunfight At O.K. Corral". Too many to mention them all, but Johnny Cash, Lorne Greene, Roy Rogers, Tex Ritter, and a dozen more add to the 'best of the West' in this tv/movie collection of soundtracks and theme songs, you'll be sure to enjoy.

A Family Favorite,
By
This review is from: My Rifle, My Pony and Me (Western Movies Songs) (Audio CD)
This is a great CD for the old western lovers. My family made a game out of the first playing of it by having to guess the name of the song and who was singing it. (One person had control of the jewel case.) What was so great about it was there was nary a cuss word or drug use in it. Very family friendly.

For anyone old enough to remember all the great Old West TV shows and movies from the same era, this CD is bound to bring you lots of fond memories and relaxing pleasure. What's best, the artists are all the originals; there are no remakes. Plenty of tunes are on this CD. It's well worth the price and the time.

I Look Toward Home,
This review is from: My Rifle, My Pony and Me (Western Movies Songs) (Audio CD)
This album takes me back to Texas. "The Sons Of Katie Elder" sung by Johnny Cash and "Nevada Smith" sung by Merle Kilgore sound good but are a bit modern. "The Searchers" sung by the Sons Of The Pioneers really hits home. As the sun sets and the days grow short I ride away and I look toward home.

More Momories of Westerns,
By
This review is from: My Rifle, My Pony and Me (Western Movies Songs) (Audio CD)
Boy, do these bring back memories of some of the Great Westerns of the 50's. We sit and listen to the songs and think of the movies and the TV shows that they are from. We can remember who starred in the movies and how the "Sons of the Pioneers" entered the stage to sing.
This is a GREAT CD.

Very Nice!!!,
By
This review is from: My Rifle, My Pony & Me: Movie & TV Soundtracks (Audio CD)
Once again Bear Family comes through. There are some obscure tracks on this disc including Jimmy Stewart's Shenandoah and Dean Martin's vocal version of Rio Bravo which never made it into the movie!! Johnny Western's theme from "Paladin" is here as is the version of Frankie Laine's "Rawhide" with the whips cracking. I would liked to have seen Frankie's "3:10 to Yuma" and the other song that Dean and Ricky did from "Rio Bravo", "Cindy", and the theme from "El Dorado", but all in all this is a very nice disc.

Mant of the songs are recognizable. However there are some clunkers. Some of the songs maybe on the movie soundtracks but you never heard them in the movie. On the whole an enjoyable album, but don't expect too much

More Duke music, PLEASE!!,
By
This review is from: My Rifle, My Pony and Me (Western Movies Songs) (Audio CD)
I wish someone would put together all the great music from the films of John Wayne. Imagine "I'll Take You Home Again, Katheleen" from "Rio Grande", "The Searchers", music from "The Quiet Man", along with the songs from his films that are included from this cd (which I've just ordered), on one cd. Come on, somebody step up to the plate here.

Beautiful - no other word for it,

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. A must for both casual and die-hard Western fans. Great even if your sense of nostalgia doesn't reach that far back (like me; I'm 22). I love the combination of slow ballads and fast, jumpy songs.
