4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Romance, August 25, 2004

Emma Trent and Dr. Paul Wyatt meet when Emma's mother has a medical emergency and needs immediate surgery. They cross paths a few times after that. When Emma's life is turned upside down by tragedy, Paul offers to marry her, a marriage of convenience. Emma agrees even though she doesn't love Paul. Gradually she begins to fall in love with him, but what about his relationship with Diana, who is far more sophisticated and beautiful than Emma could ever hope to be?

I'm not terribly fond of "marriage of convenience" romance novels, but Betty Neels pulls this off, mainly because she lets us know early on that Paul is in love with Emma and is willing to wait for Emma to fall in love with him. It's nice have some insight into his feelings and it's fun waiting for Emma to realize she has been in love with him all along!

I love reading Betty Neels' books because I know what to expect when I read them: a nice, sweet romance. She never disappoints!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Pleasant Marriage-of-Convenience Story, May 27, 2008
By
Book Description: A suitable wife? Emma had spent most of her life looking after other people, so it was quite a shock to meet a man so determined to take care of her. Sir Paul Wyatt's proposal -- even if it was motivated by convenience on his part -- was hardly one that Emma was in a position to refuse. Could this renowned surgeon be the answer to all her dreams?

While not one of my favorite, this is an enjoyable marriage of convenience story. I liked Paul and that we are allowed to see that he cares for her early on, but found Diana more than a little irritating. Although others may not agree, I much preferred An Unlikely Romance, The Bachelor's Wedding, The Vicar's Daughter, and others of her MOC stories. That said, this is another story any Neels fan will enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slow And Steady Wins The Race, August 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Isn't it romantic when a mature man knows what he wants in a wife and is willing to wait for it? The heroine was a capable, independent, caring, selfless but naive sort, just what the hero needed. He is the anchor she needs. Of course there is the antagonist the Medusa who is out to make mischief and the protagonist the heroine's friend and coworker who has set her heel to Medusa's hair. ***Spoiler Alert*** I must say miracles occurred on two occasions when the heroine chose flight over fight. She didn't haul off and literally pop her husband one when he unfavorably compared her to her nemesis or when his feelings were hurt because she, reacting in the same derogatory manner as he had, accused him of something without knowing the whole story. The woman had fortitude. The moral echoing throughout Ms. Neels' books is that forthright communication is the key to a happy marriage.
