2.0 out of 5 stars How Annoying!, May 30, 2000
By "jblakek" (Washington DC) - See all my reviews
Very dissapointed. If you're going to remix a song, tell the buyer on the disc cover. It's notated nowhere on the outside. I put the disc in and knew immediately I was screwed. I wanted the original tunes, not the remix. Ughh.

3.0 out of 5 stars "City To City" is still Rafferty's best release, June 14, 2004
This is a decent mix of Rafferty's hits... though there are really only a handful of his songs that made a major impact back in the late 1970's for the artist. "Baker Street" is THE song that made Rafferty a house-hold name. Great song, great story, great saxophone. "Right Down the Line" is probably his 2nd most well-known song. After that, it's hit or miss on this "Best Of" disc for the casual Rafferty fan. However, with that being said, I truly feel "City To City" from 1978 is/was a much better release. "City To City" was a COMPLETE album (featuring the hits "Baker Street" AND "Right Down The Line"... as well as the almost classics "Home And Dry" and the title track "City To City"). One other bad thing about this "Best Of" release is the remixed rendition of "Baker Street"... why mess with a classic? Rafferty's voice seems to echo like he's in a tunnel, as well as the saxophone solo(s) just being too loud and overbearing. While this "Best Of" package is a nice intro to the artist... "City To City" remains his overall best release.

3.0 out of 5 stars Definitely NOT the best of Gerry Rafferty, June 3, 2003
By Brett Simpson (Auckland, New Zealand) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
If you aren't familiar with anything by Gerry Rafferty other than "Baker Street" this album will probably satisfy you as there's nothing terrible about it at all. The remixes of the opening three cuts are pointless, but not as bad as others seem to think. But the song selection is dodgy at best. This is one person's idea of what Gerry Rafferty is about, and it's accuracy is debatable. Along with the absence of minor hits (and classics) "Days Gone Down", "Home And Dry" and "The Royal Mile" you get truncated versions of "Night Owl" and "Shipyard Town".

Again, none of this is likely to bother casual fans who aren't more familiar with Rafferty's albums, but still I would have to advise that if you're buying this solely for "Baker Street" and "Right Down The Line" you would be much better off with the original album - the all-time (if not ultimate) Rafferty classic "City To City".

3.0 out of 5 stars A good listen, but no Home and Dry
I've had this CD for a few years, and it's worth having for the great song "As wise as a serpent". But as far as Rafferty goes, "City to City" is the best.
