Product Description

In time to coincide with a gallery show in San Francisco, this is Dave Eggers's first collection of drawings. Most of these works are of unusual mammals, most often accompanied by slogans with ancient, heroic, or just plain odd overtones. This full-color package will be a combination of 26 large-sized prints and an accompanying booklet.

This book echoes questions posed by Eggers in McSweeney's Issue 27: What is the line between a doodle, a cartoon, a gag, and a work of fine art? Does it seem, sometimes, that the artist is defacing his or her own work by adding text? Is loose draftsmanship appealing, in that it’s intimate and disarming? Is absurdity more appealing when it comes across as humble?

When I first saw this on the shelves of the bookstore in which I work, I was quite skeptical, to say the least. Here, among all these little non-fiction titles was this GIANT book, shrink-wrapped, and just plain staring at me.

I didn't know what to expect. I bought it mostly because I appreciate art and the price was down to $15 dollars with my discount.

And man, am I glad I did.

This is a portfolio more than a book, filled to the brim with well-sketched animals with some very off phrasing. The lines surrounding the animals (their 'thoughts', as the artist puts it) range from bizarre to somehow, surreally inspiring.

This was worth my money, hands down. The huge sketch inserts are wall-worthy and the pieces themselves are just peculiar enough to be quite interesting.

All in all, I would highly recommend this to anyone that finds beauty in the unusual.

I found this book featured on the mcsweeneys website and wanted to check it out after reading a brief blurb about it on their site.

needless to say what I was expecting (a large book with pictures) and what I got was a total surprise and absolute joy!

This giant portfolio comes with several prints ranging in size of artwork by Dave Eggers.

The booklet which accompanies it has already been a hit amongst my friends within one day of owning it.

Definitely worth more than the price paid for with amazon prime! this portfolio is absolutely mind blowing.

If animals thought in complete sentences, with non-trivial thoughts, unlike LOLCATS (don't get me I love LOLCATS), you have "it is right to draw their fur." Wonderfully minimalist illustrations with packed quotes bordering some of Dave Eggers favorite mammals.

I could not recommend this book more highly as a steal and well worth the investment.
