I enjoyed John's publications. Many of his insights are biblically true. This book had been made mandatory for all leaders in my organization. Although the book only presents snap-shots of characters and events, but we all will learn much from the past. This book was not written to give us a blueprint to earn leadership. I believe that this book was written for self-reflection and meditation. Maxwell did excellent job as a writer, speaker, and servant of God.

Do You Have the Right to Lead?,
By
This review is from: Right to Lead, A Study in Character & Courage (Hardcover)
"The Right to Lead" is a small hardcover gift book that is an ideal start for the burgeoning leader. Written by "leadership expert" John C. Maxwell and culled from his previous books on leadership, this tome is a seed for leadership rather than a deep study of the subject. This is evident by the glossy pages of photos and quotes and brief biographical stories of past leaders such as Harriet Tubman, George Washington, John Wooden and Moses. However, do not let the thinness of the book fool you of its potent contents. For time-harried readers, plunging into one of the seven sections, action; vision; sacrifice; risk; determination; service or integrity will awaken one to what is needed for the right to lead.
Think you need a Harvard degree or the reins of a company to be a leader, than think again after reading about Eddie Rickenbacker, "The Ace of Aces", under the determination section. Maxwell illustrates this section's theme and the other six attributes of a leader with stories that exemplify the particular section. Maxwell succinctly relates how determination helped Rickenbacker became the breadwinner of his family at age twelve after his father died; set the world speed record for racing after only racing for two years; enlist and excel as an aviator in World War I despite being labeled average and undereducated; survive a plane crash and several weeks on a raft in the Pacific during World War II; and lead Eastern Airlines to be successful without relying on the government for subsidizes. "The Right to Lead" acorn power comes from its brief biographical sketches that enlighten and empower. Plant the powerful seed deep into your heart for a harvest that will give you the right to lead. Maxwell has produced alot better!,

This review is from: Right to Lead, A Study in Character & Courage (Hardcover)
This book is a bunch of short stories and some good quotes. As always, it is inspirational but, being a big fan of John Maxwell, He has produced a lot better. I believe John Maxwell's book, The Power of Leadership, is an even better read for those looking to better themselves and get a peak at how the world's greatest businessmen and politicians think. Additionally, the book entitled The Power of Influence - Life Stores on Relationships, is another excellent short book. If you are seeking full blown books then the 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader is a great book! They key to getting any long-term value out of Maxwell's books is to highlight the quotes you love and integrate them into your daily life. Practice what you read essentially. Hope this helps everyone.

I have been a fan of Mr. Maxwell's books for awhile. He always seems to hit the right nerves with me.
This book consists of 5 sections; 1.action, 2.vision, 3.sacrifice, 4.risk and 5.determination. We are what we preach, how we react and act on things, what we are willing to sacrifice to achieve our goals etc. Mr. Maxwell is not just a motivational speaker, but as he himself puts it, he's a motivational teacher. He doesn't just motivate you for an hour or two but forces you to think further and act in order to change your life. This is a book for people who are in positions of power and also to those who have to follow them. It makes you understand and appreciate what makes a person a leader and how you can become better at leading others. You have to earn the right to lead; just because you are in a leadership position doesn't mean you can always lead the company or organization where you want to go, you have to be able to show it to the rest, which means getting your hands dirty as well. As with all his books, Maxwell uses a lot of meaningful quotes and also stories of historical people who have made a difference with their leadership styles such as Nelson Mandela. I recommend this book (I have the kindle version) to all who search for guidance in leadership characteristics. I recommend any book by Maxwell to those who want to become better team-players and better leaders. If you have the right character you can earn the right to lead.

John Maxwell does an excellent job of drawing from the spiritual side to demonstrate his leadership principles. I would love to be supervised by someone of his caliber, and would recommend this book to anyone who wants to supervise people.

Take a pass on this one and buy any other Maxwell book.,

This review is from: Right to Lead, A Study in Character & Courage (Hardcover)
John C. Maxwell is the most prolific and insightful author on the subject of leadership in our day. I own all of his books and regard them as how-to manuals for a consistent, Christian walk as a leader and senior executive. Some books, like "Becoming a Person of Influence" and "Developing Leaders Around You" have greatly influenced my leadership style and helped form a (hopefully) Godly character in my leadership responsibilities and in my character.I was hoping for more good work in "A Right to Lead". Instead, I found merely a collection of vignettes and quotes from historical and business leaders; short passages and quotes from busy executives. I had to choke a little before I ignored the passage from Jack Welch on personal integrity. I hope Maxwell has not abandoned his Christ-centered, character building, convicting, challenging message in favor of merely selling "business books" and pandering to the public. "The Right to Lead" is a disappointment in every respect. I won't put it on the same shelf as his other excellent works.

Hot, searing words that will burn away your fears to be all that God wants you to be in this life. This is how the book is written. There are the usual short quotes that cut right to the heart of the matter and also short stories on various leaders of our time. They are guaranteed to inspire you and challenge you. A book that is not for the faint-hearted...or, maybe it is!
