Steele's book not only changed the way I look at politics, it changed that way I look at facts. One could look at Right Now as an extended polemic against Occam's Razor.

Let's take the problems with the Bush Administration, a good starting point for any GOP chairman. The left-wing establishment would have you believe that it might have had something to do with his administration's starting a war without really thinking things through -- all the while avoiding capturing the guy actually responsible for causing 9/11. Or his tax cuts slanted to the rich that ran us into massive debt. Or perhaps it was Rove's political strategy that relied on destructive regional and religious polarization. Or spying on American citizens and engaging in torture.

You might think that if you are still stuck in the old ways of thinking. But using Steele's complex logic, you will discover the problem with Bush was that he was too-left wing. And the only reason Republicans lose is that they rely on too-liberal candidates. I have to admit that argument would have never come to my mind.

Steele really challenged my whole sense of logic and no doubt he will challenge yours too. Just make sure you are sitting down first.

With Right Now, Michael Steele's approach is that we get to the truth of things and then we can build from there......own it and move forward. That being said, he begins with some tough party introspection. From there he lays down reality-based, common sense guidelines to return to our conservative roots, and take back our country. Chairman Steele's book is an important work, and the timing is flawless. I recommend it without hesitation.

Michael Steele take a lot of heat, but that's usually the case when people speak the truth! Right Now clearly defines the many things that have gone awry within the Republican Party and provides an appropriate game plan for how to get this country back on track.

My favorite moments from the book are when Steele details his own experiences while growing up and the tremendous work ethic instilled by those around him. Unlike many hard nosed conservatives I understand that liberals want to help those who cannot help themselves and that is an admirable goal. The problem is that government does not provide the best solutions - we do! Compassion and understanding are things that start with us as individuals. Help your fellow man at sufficient levels and government doesn't have to stick it's nose into the problem. Understanding these concepts from a conservative born without a silver spoon in his mouth is refreshing!

If you like clear, direct and concise reading then pick this book up RIGHT NOW. Having read many of Mr. Steele's various op-eds over the years, it's clear that his views haven't changed and that's refreshing. He simply has a much larger audience that is now listening. Get one of the tools (this book) to help jump start a conservative comeback that is only just beginning...

A top pick for parents or anyone uneasy about the impact on future generation of decisions now being made in Washington. It is a serious, candid look at why and how things have come to veer toward central control and away from personal freedom. It is a sensible but upbeat argument for making the kind of changes that really will leave America a better place for our children and grandchildren.

Steele does far more than critique both Republican and Democrat failures - he writes the next platform for the Party. For those that criticize his leadership, please at least read this book. The author recognizes that the political parties have lost their way and now are more interested in perpetuating their positions of power rather than serving the citizens of this country. He also fairly attributes some blame to the Bush administration, but still fairly catalogs that most of the failures have occurred since Obama took office.
He understands that we can be a country of success and abundance, rather than a nation suppressed by a government that forces fear and scarcity on the populace as a means to exert its control. With an economy that works, and a country that once again celebrates America, Steele makes the case that we then can have, and share throughout our society, the real change sought by many to fight poverty, protect our environment, protect our citizens, and provide the infrastructure for providing for the needy.
He does not rant, but rather persuasively presents the facts and the road map to restoring greatness and prosperity, and contrasts this with the Obama-Pelosi-Reid programs that apparently are designed to force the demise of the American dream.

Although I've liked Michael Steele from the first time I saw him on TV I was still very hesitant of what philosophy this would embrace. Some form of progressivism with a dose of pragmatism was feared but to my great surprise and immense pleasure I found a defender of Individualism who is also the head of the RNC! Who knew! I believe that no one has freedom if a single individual is denied his or her rights. I was (am) very influenced by the writings of Ayn Rand (Atlas Shrugged, The Fountainhead, etc.). This is a man who, if he chose to run for President I would not only support but actively campaign for (something I've never done). If you believe that America's greatness and her future freedom and prosperity lies in the philosophy of and respect for the individual than this is a must read for you. I do not consider myself a Republican (they are often worse because they claim to support capitalism and freedom yet are too often incapable of doing so and take actions that are against individualism). I am an Individualist. If you are I think you too will be presently surprised by this refreshing book.

Mr. Steel asks what principle should be the foundation for debate and answers it as follows, "But what should that principle be? Does one stand out more than others? Yes it does: individual rights."

There is hope!! Right Now pinpoints the beliefs of the majority of Americans and itemizes specific deviations from principles far more important than political expediency.

A very great book. It was a real eye opener to me. I would recommend it highly to every american. It really goes in depth on how the obama administration is destroying our economy, spending tax dollars wastefully, the truth about where the democratic and republican parties stand today, and much much more.

Barack Obama has proven to be a highly divisive individual with his policies. "Right Now: A 12-Step Program for Defeating the Obama Agenda" is a political call to arms from Chairman of the Republican National Committee, Michael Steele. He states that modern conservatives need to mobilize against Obama's policies and offers ideas to campaign against many of his positions. A read for conservatives who oppose Obama on almost every level, "Right Now" serves as a model for the modern right.

Michael Steele is to be commended for writing a clear and concise book about AMERICAN ideals and philosophy. I was captivated by this book; read it in one sitting. I encourage Mr. Steele to remain strong in his convictions! America needs statesmen of his caliber at this time in history. I hope he stays on as chairman. I hope he will write again. I'll be looking forward to more from this amazing American!
