5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Debut
Great debut here from a very young and up and coming singer with a voice and tone to die for.
The album has many highlights Don't Call This Love, Stargazing and Ordinary Days are sublime ballads.
Stargazing was written by Alan Chang (Michael Buble's co-writer especially for Leon).

3.0 out of 5 stars Fine Effort
Leon Jackson, Scottish winner of Britain's 2007 X-factor competition, releases a fine debut album. Let's be honest here and realise that there is nothing new about this album and some of the 'covers' on this collection have been done better by his peers (namely:Michael Buble). However, with that said..he does possess a quality vocal and the production on the album is...

Great debut here from a very young and up and coming singer with a voice and tone to die for.
The album has many highlights Don't Call This Love, Stargazing and Ordinary Days are sublime ballads.
Stargazing was written by Alan Chang (Michael Buble's co-writer especially for Leon).
Creative is a great toe tapping track that is being released as the 2nd single that in my mind should have been the first single but alas record companies don't always get it right.
Could do better could be a fabulous Bond theme.
There are some covers of course the fabulous Ray Charles number You Don't Know Me which is probably the song that won Leon the X Factor (the UK's equivalent of American Idol).
Caledonia an ode to Leon's Scottish heritage is superb and a song I had personally never heard before.
I urge you to give this album ago you might find yourself surprised to realise this young lad is only 19 and prior to entering the X Factor had only sang publically a handful of times doing kareoke and had never had a singing lesson in his life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crooner Kid, December 8, 2008
This review is from: Right Now (Audio CD)
This is an excellent debut album from the 2007 UK X Factor winner. It is full of rich vocals at times so retro and at times so contemporary.

It's hard to bear in mind that this is a 19 year old kid until you remind yourself that he has been given a rare talent. His vocal tone is something that is rich an natural...these songs suit him so well. 'Creative' is a massive hit waiting to happen and it is a feel good, up tempo song for New Year's Eve parties.

Get this album....it's seriously good and sung with a rare and serious talent.

His version of 'Caledonia' is better than good, and two hit singles 'Don't Call This Love' and 'When You Believe' are perfect pop ditties. Followed up with the beautiful ballads 'Song For You' and 'Misty Blue', there is something for everyone here. Worth buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Patrice Ochs Review of Leon Jackson's Right Now, October 7, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Right Now (Audio CD)
It was with great anticipation that I waited for my order to arrive. I kept in touch with what Leon has been up to since X Factor 2007 and once Right Now was out. I enjoyed the video of Creative and loved the eclectic music, plus Leon has a great voice that can go from ballads to rock without loosing his distintive vocal ability. I think that Leon is destined to be the 21st Century version of Elvis Presley in Scotland and around the world. He has a presence that is electric and given time will only become more enticing to younger generations - mine too - 58.
It would have been nice to know that Customs was going to take my statement and open my CD, so now I have no way of showing whether I purchased the CD or not, so I will use this notice to validate my purchase. In any case I enjoy listening to and singing along with Leon's songs and hope he continues to move forward despite Simon Cowell's snub of Leon's slow start - the race is not over yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best!, September 28, 2009

I stumbled onto Mr. Jackson on YouTube where I saw his initial audition on X Factor and was deeply moved, then checked out a few more of his performances on the show and finally purchased the album. Suffice it to say that I play it full volume on my car stereo incessantly and never tire of Leon's gorgeous, understated but right-on vocals. He is an old fashioned but hip young crooner. I actually prefer Leon to his idol, Michael Bublé, whom I greatly admire. I will be happy when he no longer feels the need on his covers of Mr. Buble's hits to hew quite so faithfully to Bublé's phrasing and even arrangements. His own phrasing on other songs is the best since Sinatra. I am so eager to see what else he comes out with. I am a fan for life.

5.0 out of 5 stars MOVE OVER MICHAEL BUBLE ..., September 7, 2009

If you like Michael Buble, you'll love Leon Jackson. I describe Leon as a cross between Buble and a young Sinatra. His genre of music is probably not for everyone, but if you appreciate a good love song, you will appreciate Leon Jackson. He has an incredibly sexy voice for a young man! His rendition of "You Don't Know Me" is the best yet ( yes, better than Ray Charles').

5.0 out of 5 stars Leon Jackson - Right Now, June 9, 2009

What a fantastic voice Leon has!!!. I absolutely love this CD. I can listen to it for hours. Rarely do I find a CD that I enjoy every last song on the album, but this is the exception. If you like Michael Buble, Frank Sinatra, Harry Conick Jr, Barry Manilow, you will really enjoy Leon Jackson. Amazing talented, very mature voice, timing and infection for a 19 year old. Leon, like Susan Boyle hails from West Lothian, Scotland. He does a wonderful version of Caledonia in which his Scottish accent is obvious and adds to the song. In all the other songs, his accent is completely lost. Leon is the winner of Britain's 2007 X-Factor. This is his first album. He was invited to perform with Michael Buble during His British tour. This Cd is well worth owning.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Major Future Star, April 5, 2009

New-to-me Scottish singer Leon Jackson is a terrific
entertainer whose style is similiar to that of Michael Buble. Leon is a recent winner of the European television competition that's the equivalent of our "American Idol" and he is likely to be a hit here in the United States
as soon as his CDs are readily available in this country. I ordered this European release from Amazon.com and sure am glad I did.
Watch for Leon Jackson when he invades these shores. His talent and attractiveness will take him to the top.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Beautiful Dreamer", March 3, 2009
This review is from: Right Now (Audio CD)
Thank God for talent shows...It allows dreamers to fulfill that, which in the real world, might have proven to be insurmountable. Such is the case of Leon Jackson's triumphant X Factor win, and in his brilliant debut album, it gives other dreamers hope, and a reason to rejoice.
There is no attempt to do overproduced pompous pop music here- no overdubbed vocals or synthesized elements or any of that techno razzmatazz. This is simply joyous and glorious music at its best, allowing Jackson's voice to speak for itself. It is indeed a marvelous instrument- rich, mature, golden.
From the controlled and confident "Don't Call this Love" to the poignant and melancholy "Ordinary Days", from the sexy swagger of "Right Now" to the sweet and tender "Fingerprints", from the samba-licious, infectious "Creative" to the soaring romanticism of "Stargazing"- each song is delivered as passionate storytelling. Even the covers are done spendidly, given new life, as if sung for the very first time. "You Don't Know Me" is a lyrical take on an obscure Ray Charles song. Jackson starts the song slow and gradually builds it into its rousing, goosebump inducing climax. "A Song for You" is a vocal marvel. This is classic singing- all the riffs and runs and key changes sung perfectly- resulting in a vulnerable, heartbreaking performance. He sings "Caledonia" deliberately with a Scottish twang, and why wouldn't he? It is about his journey after all and he makes it his own personal anthem.
There is no denying that Leon Jackson is a star- a natural, gifted, prodigious talent who deserves to be heard, and so does this wonderful album.
Here's hoping that he continues to dream...and the whole world continues to let him...

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing debut, March 1, 2009
This review is from: Right Now (Audio CD)
It's almost hard to believe a person this age has such an amazing voice almost resembling Michael Buble's, but this album makes sure of it.

"Stargazing" and "Ordinary Days" are amazing ballads, and both have quickly become my most favorite songs in this album. Jackson is able to pull a vintage style of songs in faster-paced songs such as "Creative" and "Right Now". His songs consist of jazz and piano, blended with his smooth deep voice. All in all, this is a great debut, and well worth a listen-- especially if you like Michael Buble.
