'Right In The Nuts' - V/A - Aerosmith Tribute (Small Stone),
By
This review is from: Right in the Nuts: Aerosmith (Audio CD)
It seems that it USED to be that usually a band tribute album didn't surface until the group was no longer OR until the artist(if it's a solo act)has passed on.I guess what I'm trying to say is that there are to many tribute CD's floating around out there.'Right In The Nuts' is okay, with the two-disc release having a total running time of a hair over two hours. Some of the tunes that I thought stood out were Alabama Thunderpussy, doing "Sweet Emotion",Atomic Bitchwax with "Combination",Iron Boss, giving us "Train Kept A Rollin'",Novadriver covering "Seasons Of Wither" and Roadsaw with their take on "Toys in The Attic".Not a bad find.

Aero-Metal Extraordinaire!,

This review is from: Right in the Nuts: Aerosmith (Audio CD)
I bought this 2-cd tribute on a whim, and got hit hard, just like their title says. Their title is a play on the Aerosmith release called "Night In The Ruts." You gotta wonder if Aerosmith anticipated the reverse title for a tribute.
The music here is surprisingly listenable. Some "metal" music is only for the hyper-angry head-banging frustrated males of the post-70s era. But this 2-cd set has some gems in it. The tribute versions which are BETTER than Aerosmith's originals are: Movin' Out, Adam's Apple, Sick As A Dog, Last Child (wow!), Sweet Emotion, Remember (Walking In The Sand), Seasons Of Wither (worth the price of both cds!), (as is) Lord Of The Thighs. Also good are: Make It, S.O.S. (Too Bad), Kings And Queens, Toys In The Attic, and Walkin' The Dog. The only insulting version is Train Kept A Rollin', in which the tribute band cuts it short, and you hear their f-word complaining about snapping strings. I would much have preferred a full song than their stupid attempt at humor. As far as I know, Seasons of Wither is not on ANY live or tribute Aerosmith. After you've heard this version, you won't want another. Also, you can hear the lyrics on this one. The lyrics are a bit more startling than the kindof non-discernable lyrics in Aerosmith's original. Maybe these tribute bands intended their title to be aimed at Aerosmith themselves, by outdoing them at some of their own songs. You decide.

I now own every single Aerosmith album ...,

And I blame it all on this tribute. I owned ZERO Aerosmith records before picking up "Right in the Nuts", but it gave me a new appreciation for the band's songwriting and classic 70s recordings. This album runs a little bit long, but for ($$$) is still a fantastic bargain that should give you a gateway to tons of great bands you've never heard before. This was my introduction to Volume, Gideon Smith, Puny Human, and a ton of other killer rock bands.
