5.0 out of 5 stars The Right Place is Right, January 22, 2000

I purchased this in 1981 when it came out as a record album and wore it out in 2 months of continual play. I recently purchased the CD from Gary Wright himself. I do not feel that the songs chosen for airplay on the radio back in 1981 were not the best ones on the album. Even today I would bet that "Got The Feelin'", "The Right Place", and "Close To You" would be top 10 songs. The fact that two of them have titles previously used by Dr. John (The Right Place)and the Carpenters (Close to You) probably prevented their airplay. If Gary had changed their titles a little, they would still be played on the oldies stations today. I highly recommend this recording to anyone who loves music, not just "The Dream Weaver" sound. I have close to 2,000 CD's, and this one is in my top 20, if not top 10.

"I Really Wanna Know You", was a big hit off of this album. "The Light of Smiles", is still my all-time favorite, though. This album, is in "The Right Place", as well.....

4.0 out of 5 stars A more mature, updated follow up to Dream Weaver., June 8, 2011

I grew up with the Dream Weaver record. My dad and I both loved it and it was in constant rotation at our house. We also later got "Heading Home" and this album "The Right Place" back when they came out. The songs "I really wanna know you" and "Coming Apart" have stayed in my memory all these years!

The biggest thing about this album versus the others after Dream Weaver is that like the "Weaver" album, Gary used a good studio drummer once again that gives "Right Place" close to the same groove or feel to it. Jim Keltner played on Weaver. He is a great studio drummer that has played with the likes of John Lennon, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, and many others from the 70's.
Tris Imboden is the drummer on "Right Place" who is also a studio drummer and was in the studio and toured a lot with Kenny Loggins and Tris is now with the band Chicago.

In a nutshell, "The Right Place" is a great Gary Wright CD! To me,it is the natural follow up to Dream Weaver. Some of the lyrics and instruments sound dated at times but it will in NO WAY take away from the music. "Right Place" is very much like " Alan Parsons Project" during this time with very well crafted songs, great hooks and polished material that is very easy to listen to and stays in your head in a good way.

I really do love Gary's stuff, is great music and songs, but some of the other albums just get too cheesy or corny at times. The "Right Place" has a few songs and places like this as well, BUT and I mean a HUGE BUTT, it is NO MORE cheesy than Alan Parsons, Kenny Loggins,Michael McDonald or other 70's/80's was! In fact, I recently purchased "The Right Place" from here a few weeks ago because I just had to have it! Have not been disappointed!

Is just GREAT 80's pop/soft rock with a great groove and feel like Dream Weaver but is not "just like" it. The extra tracks are very good as well, sound a lot like Kenny Loggins tunes or other 80's stuff in a good way. The last Extra Song is truly a simple/great Gary Wright slow song/ Ballad.

Is just one of those CD's that you never tire of and with just very crafty, groovy songs that, to me sound like the next logical follow up to Dream Weaver, A more mature an updated list of songs! Hope this helps.
