Book Description

June 6, 2006
Following Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy from the Blue Collar Comedy Tour to the page, Ron White (affectionately known as “Tater Salad”) delivers the laughs in his distinctive and beloved down-home style.

Fans of Ron White’s “perfectly-phrased everyman gripes and raunchy, grinning asides*” will find much to appreciate here. He riffs on everything from obnoxious designer sunglass salesmen to his wife’s wealthy but stingy family, and he revisits some of his most famous characters, such as his troublesome dog Sluggo (“He ran away all day. He was gone for ten hours. So, to punish him, when he came home I took him for a walk.”).

Best of all, White’s hilarious material is accompanied here by clever artistic interpretations, courtesy of illustrator Matthew Schulz. BACKCOVER: “Ron White’s comedy is about as understated as a chainsaw, and twice as sharp.”
STAR TRIBUNE (MINNEAPOLIS)

“White’s inspired comic mind finds a dozen sources of humor where the average comic would find only one or two, while making a fine art of the deadpan style.”

Ron's interesting oral story-telling ability translates very well into text. It's probably better to be familiar with his delivery so you can "hear" it on your head rather than read it cold. But either way, this is a great read and I hope Ron has plans for another book soon!! If you have a long flight or bus ride ahead, I highly recommend this one to make it fly by! I just wish he'd come by Massachusetts once in a while!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Bought this book for my Dad for Father's Day, but read it myself first!, June 18, 2006
This review is from: I Had the Right to Remain Silent...But I Didn't Have the Ability (Hardcover)
If you haven't seen any of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, do yourself a favor and check it out. The typical lineup includes Jeff Foxworthy, Larry the Cable Guy, and Ron White. Now Foxworthy has been around awhile, and Larry has been on the scene for the last couple of years, but I was unfamiliar with Ron White until I saw him on Imus recently. Ron White is pure, raw humor!

My father loves George Carlin, and buys his books whenever George gets around to writing one. Well, Carlin had nothing on White! White is as raunchy and unadulterated as Carlin. Now, mind you, one must like this type of humor, and be able to take the surprise of what might come; consequently, it is not for everyone. However, if you like this genre of comedy, White easily takes a page from Carlin and carries it off superbly.

SILENT is a rendition of White's standup routines, which is very well translated (written), and "laugh out loud" funny.

Those who like the Blue Collar Comedy Tour or George Carlin can't go wrong with White's SILENT. This is just a hilarious guy whose written a like-minded book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Typical Ron, October 8, 2006

This review is from: I Had the Right to Remain Silent...But I Didn't Have the Ability (Hardcover)
Ron White is a funny guy. I've seen him numerous times on the Blue Collar Comedy DVD's and I have his CDs and he always makes me laugh. When I started reading the book I realized that the material was stuff I'd already heard. Thankfully, as I read on I realized that it wasn't all old material. To fully appreciate Ron White, you need to see his live performance with his Texas twang and sipping scotch like it was spring water. The book is a quick read and for any Blue Collar Comedy fan, you'll love it.
