Product Description

Sarah Miles was illegitimate, and of distant royal descent. Her childhood wasn't easy - dyslexic with a severe stammer, rebellion was her means of expression, animals and trees her friends. Expelled from Roedean and Crofton Grange, her mother despaired and sent her to London and RADA. On the loose in London, Sarah revealed a special talent for getting into trouble and an equal talent for acting. She landed herself an agent, fell in love with his son, lived with a prostitute and finally met the man whose photograph she had kept under her pillow since she was 11 and who would change the course of her life - Laurence Olivier. This is the first volume of a two-volume biography.

I suppose that the nearest description I can come up with for Sarah Miles is fey. This talented, funny actress seems to live in another dimension from the rest of us. The title of the book comes from her mother's family connections...Sarah is the great grandaughter of Prince Francis of Teck, brother of Queen Mary, who was reportedly a man about town and a great one with the ladies, so Sarah's connections are from the wrong side of the blanket. Coming from a family of wealth and privelege, she managed to get herself thrown out of some of the top girl's schools in England and, only by sheer good luck and family influence, was she accepted by RADA at the tender age of 15 ( her mother lied to them about her age)and found her niche in acting. Sexually precocious, it's a miracle that she didn't come to a sticky end with the risks she took, but I can't say what happened to you after that as this autobiography ends when she is only 18. Presumably there was, or was meant to be, a second part to this story which I'll read if I can find a copy. We know of her success in major films but I'd like to know more about the personal life of this rather strange lady.
