Biography

Tony Windle’s music can be heard across the country in elevators, dentist’s offices, and supermarkets. It’s perfect for dinner, romance, or the “smooth ride home.” What is the music of Tony Windle? Ask his Mom, and she’ll tell you it’s amazing – best on Earth! “Smooth and exciting” says one listener, chardonnay in hand. Really though, what is his music? - Wordless expressionism? Baked into genres… Read more in Amazon's Tony Windle Store

4.0 out of 5 stars Windle rules!, June 29, 2000
By
"jazzzman" (Kansas City, MO USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Right There (Audio CD)
Pianist Tony Windle showcases his considerable talents on his sophomore recording Right There! from GOsmooth! Recordings. In the three years since his debut album, Unframed Picture, Windle has obviously taken this time to prepare (he wrote all the tunes except the Rod Temperton tune,Baby Be Mine), and co-produce this release.

There is a spontaneity and vitality to this eleven-track set that makes you just want to pack up and follow wherever the tunes lead you. Ranging from funky uptown sounds to intensely moving ballads (witness the wonderful Up Home, my personal favourite, and the ultra-cool Never NeverLand--I'm definately a ballad man), there is really nothing that could make this session more complete.

There's no wanting for supporting talent either; subbing for Marienthal's sax from his first recording, Greg Vail partners with Windle on several tracks; without overshadowing or show-boating, Vail's sax lends a perfect meld and accompaniment to Windles' natural tunesmithing. Another featured saxman is Jeff Kashiwa who joins the pianist on two of the more up-tempo cuts. This is smooth jazz at it's coolest!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sheer Joy, October 24, 2001
This review is from: Right There (Audio CD)
I have had the distinct pleasure of seeing Tony, Scott and Mambo live on several occassions!!! This recording is a great example of their very original work! I never cease to be amazed at the amount of sound they achieve from just keyboards, sax and percussion!! Great work, guys.... can't wait for your new release!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Young Smooth Jazz Stars, October 2, 2001
By
Lynn E. Hanus (Sedona, Arizona United States) - See all my reviews

The team of Tony Windle, Scott Reams and Mombo Hernandez are one of the bright, great young jazz stars in the country. Look for them to re-form their original group "AltoSynDrum". No one is more listenable and fun to hear. And, they're great in person!
