5.0 out of 5 stars Yes !, June 16, 2008
By litefoot (CA, south) - See all my reviews
Skepticism is usually warranted with new recordings of obscure late romantics. Rontgen happens to be the exception, a discovery for this writer. With this CD one hears an agile composer with top drawer impetus all the way.

In the piano quintet you get a clear sense of thematic and rhythmic singularity shooting through the familiar. Rontgen moves with Haydn-like dexterity. (Speaking of familiar, am I the only one who flashed on NPR here?).

The viola sonata's andante mesto is strangely of itself. Rontgen is memorable throughout; the themes stay with you. This originality clearly separates Rontgen from a host of second tier post-romantics.

Outstanding performance and recording.
