Give her some "Saturday Love", September 11, 1999

This review is from: The Right Time (Audio CD)
I've read some reviews dissing this album, so I wanted to give my take on it. I have been a fan since buying the 45 of "Saturday Love" - and I have also bought her greatest hits which has another one of her best - "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On". Sure, this is not a mid 80's Tabu records R&B album...but that does not mean that Cherrelle has abandoned her roots. This is simply the evolution of a diva. And I have to say that the production lives up to the best of todays R&B. Cherrelle is as smooth as ever, and her music has a contemporary flair that ranks among the best of genre. Sure, the cover design is cheesey (although Cherrelle looks amazing), but that doesn't speak for the production values of the music. Several cuts are enjoyable...the first single and title cut combines decent rap and music for a satisfying package, her remake of the Sylvia classic "Pillow Talk" is groovy, and she even has a few new school R&B ditties like "Sleeping With The Enemy" to please the new fans. And if that isn't enough she and Alexander O'Neal remake the Patti Austin classic "Baby Come To Me" without embarrassing themselves and even throw in a remix of "Saturday Love" that sounds like it was overlayed on "Set It Off". What more could you ask for? I say this album is a worthy follow-up to some of the other gems from this diva. Enjoy!

Good quality, June 4, 2005

This is a good and steady soul album, well sung and with great titles. Songs like Sleeping with the enemy, Pillow talk or Right time go straight into your ear. Cherrelle gives us the quality she is known for. It's highly appreciated when an artist goes her own way and brings out an album all by her own inspiration. Well done
