Book Description

May 1, 2006 Little Mo Stories
This book is unique because of its invitation for active participation and involvement with the authors and illustrator. Through these short biographical stories with very relatable themes readers young and older are encouraged to reflect on their own lives and experiences. Ready, set, go! Go for the gold-your goal and stay On the Right Track! The book is an account of "A day in the life of Little Mo", growing up with the Greenes including his extended family. The eyewitness account of Mo's father, Ernest, puts you on the track at that time in Athens, Greece in "The Big Race". "...He is now in his full running position. His powerful arms are moving back and forth..." (Excerpt from the book) Today you may know him as gold, silver, and bronze Olympian track star, Maurice Greene. His father and aunt recognize and document his accomplishments in track by recalling how he set goals and worked hard even at an early age as Little Mo.

About the Author

This dynamic duo brother and sister team grew up together going to the same schools through elementary, Jr. High and High Schools as well as KCKS Community College. Audrey went on to receive her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Emporia State University. They share the same values, educational views for young children and a strong spiritual and family outlook for living. Coming from a close family both share in the guidance of their own children as well as that of their nieces, nephews, siblings and young people of their community. Audrey Nesby is a retired educator having taught for thirty eight years in Kansas City Kansas Public Schools. She worked on many district manuals and guides for teaching reading, math, social studies, and science. Her love of literature and learning led her to write poems, stories and family history accounts for pleasure.. While Maurice was in attendance at Quindaro Elementary School, Audrey was a third grade teacher there. Her daughter Karyn and Maurice rode home from school each evening with her, and shared many adventures together. Because of their involvement with the Maurice Greene Finish the Race Foundation, Audrey and brother Ernest wrote a guide for the after school program it sponsored. Thus this book of Little Mo was written with input from Maurice. Ernest Greene Sr., brother of co-author Audrey and father of Maurice Greene, has been literally running the race with Maurice from the beginning. He too is a product of the Kansas City Kansas Schools and the KCKS Community College. Ernest Sr. worked for H.D. Lee Jean Company and has worked for financial companies as well as for Outside Connections as Program Director and is currently a Correctional Counselor at the Lansing Correctional Facility. Ernest has also been appointed by the Governor of Kansas as a Commissioner on the Kansas African American Affairs Commission. If there is a track meet anywhere, you may find him there.
