3.0 out of 5 stars An Album With Both Average and Shining Moments, September 25, 2006
This review is from: Right Where You Want Me (Audio CD)
Jesse McCartney is definitely one of the prominent so penned "heartthrobs" of today. He is a talented actor as well as a talented, credible enough singer. Jesse doesn't so much have the problem of say Lindsay Lohan or Ashlee Simpson in releasing an album; he was a member of the lackadaisical, underrated Dream Street prior to becoming a serious actor. Also moreso than Lindsay or Ashlee, the boy can sing, even if this album in particular does have its flat moments. Having not heard BEAUTIFUL SOUL, I don't have the ground to compare this album, but based off the single "Beautiful Soul" compared to the songs here, this album doesn't necessarily have song nearly that strong. It isn't a bad album though in the least, and it has many shining moments.

"Right Where You Want Me", the title track features soulful production with a very minor-dark feel during the verses. The chorus though takes on "cliche proportions" as the guitars are overproduced and tend to cover up McCartney's vocals. His falsetto here is particularly notable, and almost makes up for the more indicipherable vocals by McCartney at the chorus.

"Just So You Knew" is a rather unexciting, uninspiring track. There is nothing new here to draw you in; at times infact, McCartney sounds a bit thin. Despite that, McCartney does sit on top of the production vocally well here, but quality supercedes production with this track making it filler material in my eyes.

"Blow Your Mind" is the track that you've been waiting for McCartney to record (yeah I know he's only released 2 albums). What is particularly exciting is the soulful-rock quality of this track that just might give McCartney a bit of rock-credibility. This track is the strongest rival where quality is concerned to "Beautiful Soul". Also, an "electrifying" guitar solo makes this track all that much better than it already is.

"Right Back in The Water" is another solid track exploiting the best facets of McCartney's vocals. Unfortunately by this song, you do start to wonder how nice it might be if McCartney stepped outside of his comfort zone to try to sing a different type of song. "Anybody" showcases an over-exerted performance by McCartney meaning that his voice here sounds like McCartney is working to hard. Despite the faux-pas, "Tell Here" almost completely makes up for the uninspiring, predictable "Anybody".

The only other major standout of RIGHT WHERE YOU WANT ME is the penultimate track "Invincible" which is among the top echolon where quality of the tracks are concerned. Here McCartney sounds great, the lyrics are exceptional, the string orchestration is lush, and it makes for perhaps the best track or one of the best tracks on the entire album. Otherwise, the ball is dropped on such tracks as "We Can Go Anywhere", "Feeling You", or "Just Go" while other tracks are above average, though nothing to write home about ("Daddy's Little Girl" and "Can't Let You Go").

It is hard for some of the strongest material here to assign a rating of just 3 stars, however as whole, the album has its phenomenal moments and its dull moments making it average. However, I believe Jesse McCartney has more than his looks going for him, meaning vocally, he isn't a bad singer; he is one with great potential. 3 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing!, October 2, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Right Where You Want Me (Audio CD)
Jesse McCartney is amazing. I really thought that 'Beautiful Soul' was a great album, but now that I've heard 'Right Where You Want Me' it just blew me away. He has definately grown up so much from Beautiful Soul, but not so much as to change his fan base of teenage girls. Jesse has a more rock sound on this CD (#'s 3, 8, & 12) and I like it more than all the ballads on Beautiful Soul. This CD is more upbeat and fun, but still has it's slow & sweet songs. Two of his best songs on this album lyric wise for me would be Just Go & Invincible. I am going to rate every song on the album from 1-10. ---

1. Right Where You Want Me- 9/10 - definately one of the best songs on the record. Has a rock/pop sound & is very catchy.

2. Just So You Know- 8/10 - also one of the better songs. Not my favorite but not my least favorite either.

3. Blow Your Minds- 10/10 - This song is great. I love the rock vibe and you can tell that Jesse put his heart into this song.

4. Right Back In The Water - 8/10 - I really like this song. probably one of the better slow songs. The lyrics are good, just like all the rest of the songs on the record.

5. Anybody - 8/10 - This song was pretty surprising for me, but in a good way. It starts out slow and then the chorus has a more rock sound. This song also sounds amazing when sang live.

6. Tell Her - 9/10 - By far the best slow song on the record. The lyrics mean a lot to all of us teenage girls "If you see my girl just tell her I miss her smile//Tell her I'm counting the minutes gonna see her in a little while//Just tell her i love her." Not many artists can have such meaning and things that you can relate to in their lyrics.

7. Just Go - 9/10 - Another one of my favorites. The lyrics on this one are very much something that people can relate to "I trusted you, yeah that would be my first mistake//i've been lied to//Your eyes are ice cold blue, a mirror of the heart inside of you."

8. Can't Let You Go - 9/10 - Another song with a rock vibe. I love this song even more when performed live. You can definately tell that Jesse thinks hard on his lyrics and puts his heart into his songs.

9. We Can Go Anywhere - 7/10 - Not one of my favorite songs. It was written for Jesse's fall 2007 movie 'Keith'. Kind of reminds me of Beautiful Soul songs.

10. Feelin' You - 8/10 - The ONLY song on the whole record that Jesse did not write, but that doesn't mean much. This song is still catchy and fun.

11. Invincible - 10/10 - Wow how can I even begin with this song? I can hardly bare to listen to this song because it has so much meaning and it's very sad. The song is about a friend of Jesse's who died in a drinking and driving accident about 3 years ago. The lyrics for this song are amazing and so meaningful.

12. Daddy's Little Girl - 10/10 - My absolute favorite song on the record. It has a rock sound and is very catchy. It makes me want to get up and dance. I found the lyrics very funny but still very good- "Girl shake what your momma gave ya//Shake it like your tryin' to break it//Bout to start an earthquake//BOOM!" You sort of have to listen to the song to understand it's meaning.

Overall this album is GREAT and you should definatley buy it and see how you like it. This is a must have for teenage girls who like Rock/Pop --think Justin Timberlake or Teddy Geiger-- and is amazingly a much more grown-up sound from Beautiful Soul.

5.0 out of 5 stars SUPERB SECOND ALBUM, September 27, 2006

Just received my copy of this CD today, well ahead the arrival date suggested by Amazon, and my goodness what a record it is.

Talented actor, superb singer, Jesse McCartney has got it all.The artwork on the CD shows that Jesse is looking great.More importantly, the sound in the grooves indicate that Jesse, a couple of years down the line from the fabulous "Beautiful Soul" is sounding better than ever.

The arrangements are superb, the musicianship is excellent, but as was the case with Beautiful Soul, it's Jesse's voice that shines through, and what a superb and thrilling singing voice he has.

It is hard to pick a favourite, but the heartfelt "Invincible" has to be right up there, along with "Feelin' You" , "We Can Go Anywhere" and the wonderfully catchy "Right Where You Want Me".

Jesse , if I was allowed to give you ten stars or more this CD, I would do just that. You just now have to get yourself over to the UK and prove to everyone else what a damn fine entertainer you are.Your fans don't need telling. They've known for long enough.

But I'll say it anyway and I'll say it again later on your myspace page. You are a very fine young actor and a really first class singer.Long may you continue to rock my world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very under appreciated, November 10, 2006
This review is from: Right Where You Want Me (Audio CD)
This is a great CD guys. Jesse takes hard hits all the time, but I think he's really talented. It's pop at it's best. It grows on you just like Beutiful Soul did. I love singing these songs in the car. You can really relate to them. One thing I love about Jesse's style is his harmonies and his range and cascading phrasing. It's really unique that someone of this age can grasp that and use it to their advantage. And he's so darn cute, I mean come on . . . you can't argue that. Listen to it a few times. You'll like it.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4-1/2 stars -- Call me a sissy if you want, but..., August 21, 2007
This review is from: Right Where You Want Me (Audio CD)
Now, you normally wouldn't find a 26-year-old black man listening to Jesse McCartney, but as people should know by now, I try to give everything a chance. And while I enjoyed Jesse's debut solo album Beautiful Soul, Right Where You Want Me blows it out the water.

Speaking of which, one of the best songs is "Right Back In the Water". The breakup song "Just Go" is also a highlight; and although "Anybody" uses an otherwise clichéd topic, it also works well. Jesse even does a good job when he ventures into sexual territory (hey, you can't be a teenybopper forever), as evidenced on the title track and especially "Blow Your Mind".

But it's not all fun and games: "Invincible" is a poignant story about a woman that got killed in a drunk driving accident. But you should be cheered up with further good songs like "Feelin' You". In fact, the only reason I knocked off half a star is because "Tell Her" is hard to get into. Everything else is great and is proof that Jesse can last in this business, so in your stereo should be right where you want this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yay Jesse!!!, March 22, 2007

Of course this is a good CD, it's by Jesse McCartney, what does everyone expect??? Some of the songs are kind of suggestive, which is annoying, like Jesse thinks he has to be all big and bad now or something. But I listen to them anyway :), because, aside from the lyrics, they're really good songs (except for "Daddy's Little Girl. I don't understand why this song has to be on the album at all! It's not even a good song!). They're totally not explicit or anything, and if you have any young children or siblings anything, it's not like they'll know what Jesse's singing about. He doesn't make it obvious. THANKFULLY.
Besides that, I have no problems with any of the songs on this album. They're better than Jesse's first album, more mature, I guess, with less of the disney pop sound to them. The only songs I don't listen to on this album are "Right Where You Want Me" (I know I'm crazy, I just never really liked that song!) and "Daddy's Little Girl" (as you probably gathered from what I wrote above, I really don't like it. It's just so pointless!!!). My favorites are "Just So You Know", "Just Go", "We Can Go Anywhere" and, especially, "Invincible". That song is so sad!!! It make me want to cry. In a good way. :)
All I can say now is, this CD is amazing. I love it to pieces!

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love It., January 27, 2007
This review is from: Right Where You Want Me (Audio CD)
I may be a teenager, and a Jesse fan, but my area of expertise is music.

I bought this album off of iTunes for 10 bucks, and I think it's safe to say that it should have been more.

I enjoy every song on here, and I definitely am not sick of it yet.

I own "Beautiful Soul" as well, and it is quite a bit different from this album. It's not as edgy, and the tracks are all about falling in love. This album, however, is quite a bit different...

Blow Your Mind is about Jesse being sexually attracted to a woman {NOT on Beautiful Soul...}, Invincible is about drinking and driving, and Just Go is about Jesse pushing a woman away {on Beautiful Soul he was embracing them}.

I like this album, just because Jesse makes the music his own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jesse McCartney has potential, September 27, 2006

Jesse McCartney
"Right Where You Want Me"
Released: 9/19/06

1. "Right Where You Want Me" (10/10) - The title track and the first single off his sophomore album. Let's face it, the song is undeniably catchy. The beat and the mixture of vocal tones combine to make one powerful radio friendly song. Initially listening to this song, I was proud of Jesse for sticking to his roots and continuing his pop sound.
2. "Just So You Know" (9/10) - I really like the pop beats with the rock vibe mixed in. I like the new style of Jesse. Another catchy tune, but the song could use more emotion.
3. "Blow Your Mind" (10/10) - If he chooses to release another song, this one will be it! Somehow Jesse pulls off a somewhat rock sound. I like the backing vocals on the chorus too. All the ingredients work for this one.
4. "Right Back in the Water" (5/10) - Jesse really knows how to use his voice on the slow tracks, but that's the only thing I can really love about this song. Not one of my favorites.
5. "Anybody" (8/10) - In true Jesse fashion, he opens the song (and continues it throughout the verses) with a beat he's making with his voice. He works the rock sound again, until the song slows down a bit. It seems too typical for me to really adore it.
6. "Tell Her" (8/10) - Now this is a good slow song. I like the lyrics and the up-tempo chorus. It flows well.
7. "Just Go" (9/10) - I'm beginning to learn that Jesse McCartney is all about catchy songs and this one doesn't fail to echo that. Plus, the lyrics are well put together: "Your eyes are ice cold blue/ A mirror of the heart inside of you." Not to mention, the vocals are exceptionally good.
8. "Can't Let You Go" (9/10) - Wow, Jesse's voice actually sounds like a real rocker's should. I like the flow of the song. It's a real rock vibe overall.
9. "We Can Go Anywhere" (7/10) - This is just a song that makes you feel good and you don't know why. Jesse was made for pop music. It's a cute song, but could be more memorable.
10. "Feelin' You" (6/10) - I believe this is the only song on the album that Jesse didn't write. I like the vocals, but this song doesn't particularly pop out at me.
11. "Invincible" (100/10) - No, that's not a typo, I'd give this one 100 out of 10. This song is absolutely amazing. Words can't describe it, but the story behind it is so incredible. I'm addicted to this one.
12. "Daddy's Little Girl" (9/10) - It seems like he's trying a little too hard. I like this song.. it's got the whole package, minus the lyrics since they're a bit stupid, but what do we find on the radios today, anyway? "Have a taste of what it's like to be old enough." For some reason, I just don't like the thought of little Jesse McCartney singing about this stuff. Nevertheless, the song is catchy.

Overall (100/120) - Jesse McCartney's second album proves itself. Any lover of pop/rock music would really enjoy this one. And even those who feel like they're beyond that might be happily surprised about what they find in the ex-member of boy band Dream Street. All I can say is he has definitely evolved into a true musician. I'm not quite sure why this album is being passed up by so many clueless buyers. My final say is to give it a chance.

Go download this: "Invincible"

5.0 out of 5 stars MORE REAL THAN BS!, September 22, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Right Where You Want Me (Audio CD)
jesse was 15 when he recorded BS and he had a lot of fans at that age who were 12 or 13 ...4 years latter...he's 19 and those fans are 17 or even older they don't wanna listen to those stuff anymore.
BS was a little unreal all the songs were about a guy who loves a girl
but this record is more mature and more REAL...listen to the track 11.
it's about his friend who died in a drinkin' and drivin' accident he
wanted to put this song on the album for the others to know how bad it is to d/driving...all the songs r cool...and about the lyrics:what another singers are singing about??? what do exept him to sing???
anyway all the lyrics (from any singer) r about relatinships or love or loosing sombody etc.
I am really 16 but I used kid's review because I don't have an amazon account...:)
