3.0 out of 5 stars Blood Type Kit
Eat Right 4 Your Type Home Blood Typing Kit

I like the idea of this blood type kit. Most people don't know what blood type they have and so this is helpful if you don't want to go to the clinic and go through all that hassle. Plus it's pretty inexpensive. I thought this kit was ok. We were confused with the pictures and what we were looking for. Nothing that...

The rest of my family members were able to find out their blood type when they first donated blood, but since I don't weigh enough to donate, I figured that I would only find out my own type if I ever needed a transfusion for some reason. Maybe it's because I'm a science nerd, but I really couldn't help wondering which antigens my red blood cells are carrying, so I was very excited to come across this inexpensive kit. Having read reviews that mentioned ambiguous results, I was extra meticulous in following the instructions and fortunately came out with a very clear result. It's not a difficult process, but it helps to pre-read the instructions and organize your materials before starting. The instructions also include an internet address were you can view a video demonstration of the procedure if it's unclear to you. Basically, you add a drop or two of blood to 4 different substances on the card and check to see if your blood reacts or not. In addition to improper technique, I'm guessing vague results could possibly indicate a rare blood type? Otherwise, your blood either reacts or it doesn't. A non-reaction just looks like smeared blood. However, if your blood does react, you will see it change from the smeared appearance to a speckled appearance as the blood cells clump together. You can have larger or smaller clumps depending on how strong the reaction is, but basically: No reaction = no distinct clumps or specks; Reaction = clumps/specks that have separated out. One of the substances on the card is a control and shouldn't cause any reaction unless there was a manufacturing defect, so as long as the blood just looks smeared around on that part of the card, you can use it to compare. You do have to realize that the results depicted in the instructions are just illustrations; they're not actual photographs so you can't expect your results to look exactly like them. Also, it might be easier to tell once the blood has dried. I've uploaded a picture of what my results look like (after drying) as an example.

In any case, the kit is not that expensive, so it's worth a try if you really want to know your blood type and have no cost-free alternative means of finding out (e.g. blood bank).

Nothing that showed up looked exactly like the sample pictures that were shown. But I think that we figured it out. It was not a "No Brainer" because you really had to study the pictures. But it was painless. I would give it a B-. But the Eat Right 4 Your Type diet is fantastic. I've never felt better then when I am doing this diet. Hopefully this has helped someone out there!

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Use and better than I expected, January 29, 2010

This review is from: Eat Right 4 Your Type Home Blood Typing Kit with Eldoncard (Health and Beauty)
I had read some reviews and was a little nervous about the "difficulty" of using and decyphering the results, but the price was so good, I decided to give it a shot.
I received it in a few days after ordering and made sure to read the instructions so I wouldn't make a mistake.
Everything went smoothly until it came time to prick my finger. I was curious as to how deep and thick the needle would be. So I was trying to push the needle out of the container and in doing so, I "set off" the needle, which upon further reading, realized it was a single use spring loaded needle. So, now I was "stuck" (no pun intended) I could just get a safety pin, but it wasn't sterile. So I decided the next best thing would be to disassemble the single use contraption and just poke my finger with the needle inside. Granted, it wasn't really a needle, just a sharp needle like device. Since it is hard to poke a needle into yourself I didn't really get it very deep, and not that much blood came out. But a little was fine in the end. As I smeared it into the water droplets the mixture didn't cover the whole circle but the results were still clear and readable. In the end I found I am A+, I also purchased the Eat Right for Your Blood Type and have started employing some of the guidance into my diet.
So REMEMBER!! THE NEEDLE IS SINGLE USE, USE IT ON YOUR FINGER, NOT THE TABLE :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Blood Typing Kit, February 1, 2010

This is an excellent blood type kit for a great price. You must be able to prick your finger and get out more than a few drops of blood in order to use it. You need at least 4 drops of blood in each of the 4 circles in the kit to get a good result. You have to mix the blood drops with material in the circles, so you have to get enough to mix. It works well and gave me an great result. It was exactly what I expected. It allowed me to read and follow the instructions in Peter D'Adamo's book, Eat Right For Your Blood Type.

1.0 out of 5 stars the lancet does not work, September 25, 2010

The kit includes a lancet which is flimsy and did not work. I used my regular diabetic lancet, but for folks who do not have diabetes and do not understand finger pricks this kit is essentially useless.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice & Easy!, March 9, 2010
This review is from: Eat Right 4 Your Type Home Blood Typing Kit with Eldoncard (Health and Beauty)
I planned on putting my family on the blood type diet but needed to know everyone's blood type. So I bought several of these kits and found they were extremely easy to use and understand. One drawback to the kits (which is why I am giving it 4 stars out of 5) is that the little white plastic sticks that are used to take the blood from the finger to the water were hard and smooth/shiny, meaning the blood didn't stick to them. It just ran right off of them. So I had to prepare the cards as instructed, and take my children's fingers right over the card and drop their blood droplets right on the card in the right spot and then use the white sticks to mix up the blood/water. Doing this made it a bit more difficult but fortunately, my children are a bit older and could handle it. Outside of the those useless white sticks, this was a fun and easy blood kit to use.

This was actually sort of fun to do.... the instructions are clear, and I had no difficulty following them and getting the typing to work as expected. Just follow the instructions explicitly and you'll be fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does what it's meant to do in less than 5 minutes, September 9, 2011

Got it, read instructions, followed the instructions and got my results. It's that simple! Overall I don't think it was more than 5 minutes. I know what my mother's and father's blood types are and the results are what was expected. What else can you ask from a product? It does what it is meant to do.
