Book Description

1880607166 978-1880607169 March 1, 2000 4
Originally written in 1984 and updated several times since, The Rights of Law Enforcement Officers has been designed to be a basic manual on the scope of an officer’s job-related rights. The book is written in straightforward, direct language for all those involved in law enforcement personnel matters, including law enforcement officers, their labor organizations, personnel managers, as well as attorneys representing law enforcement management and labor. It is the most comprehensive and widely-circulated book on police officer rights.

The fourth edition of this book, published in March, 2000, has been substantially rewritten to incorporate more than 1000 new cases decided in the last four years. The book discussed new developments in the areas of The Americans With Disabilities Act, drug testing, the legality of affirmative action plans, residency rules and The Fair Labor Standards Act. The discipline and collective bargaining tables – extremely useful day-to-day tools in police personnel issues – have both been significantly updated.

An excellent book for officers and supervisors alike. Chapters were well organized and material referenced appropriately. Following the book, any officer or supervisor will make better, more sound decisions on discipline.

If you are a supervisor, you MUST read this book. It provides a wealth of information, enough for a two week training course.
