I purchased this machine when it was a new arrival with no reviews and little available feedback on it anywhere else. The price was considerably less than it is now, so I went for it. I can't say that I have any regrets, especially considering I didn't have to pay extra for shipping to my door instead of having to haul it around myself. This tool is on par with pretty much any other drill press you will find in the price range. I would hazard a guess and say all the different brands are made in the same factory with a different name slapped on them before they are boxed up.

The motor is quiet and powerful enough to drill through steel, stainless, wood, etc. I have not had it bog down or seem to strain under heavy drilling. As long as your drill bits are sharp (they should be) there shouldn't be any problems.

Run out seems to be rather high, on the order of nearly .010". This was measured with a dial indicator against a 1/2" solid carbide router bit mounted in the chuck. When I measured run out at the arbor, it was just about half this reading, and if you were to look at the chuck on my tool, you'd see why I say it's the weakest part of the tool.

The construction of the machine itself is decent, with fit and finish being "acceptable". There were no burrs on any important parts, things fit the way they were supposed to. I must mention that the instructions that came were *severely* lacking. I went to Rikon's website and downloaded instructions for a similar machine (this model isn't listed anywhere on their site) which helped explain a lot. Most of it was assembled at the factory, and final assembly took less than half an hour.

Changing speeds via the two belts is easy and fast. Capacity is good as far as quill travel and table travel. Chuck capacity is rather nice given the HP rating, however, as I said earlier the chuck is definitely the weak link of this tool. More than likely I will purchase a replacement chuck in the future.

All in all I'd give this a 4.5 star rating, especially considering the price I paid for it. I do round down in these cases, and I'm sure that with more use my four stars will become justified. Made in Taiwan.
