I bought this set on the recommendation of David Hurwitz at [...] -- I'm glad I did.I have a "Rimsky's greatest hits" set from Chandos (conducted by Dmitri Kitajenko) which I've never been completely happy with, and this set easily outclasses it. This is the finest version of the Piano Concerto I've ever heard; same thing with the Russian Easter Overture. Disk two is my least favorite, simply because nothing can compare to Reiner's Sheherazade and I don't care about the Antar Symphony. But listening to disk three, my main thought was frustration that they didn't include my favorites. That is to say, I was enjoying the performance so much that I was eager to hear what they would do with Kitezh and Le Coq d'Or

I listened to this a while back. What stuck me was the excellent dynamics and audio quality. The performances were excellent. The interpretation of the Russian Easter Festival Overture left me scratching my head... it was way off the mark. Its the difference from 4 to 5 stars.
