Sadko, a wonderful Russian opera,
By Samuel Haber (Oakland California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rimsky-Korsakov: Sadko [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Valery Gergiev, Russia's most outstanding conductor of our day, conducts this opera. Brian Large, one of England's leading video directors has done the video. This is one of Rimsky-Korsakov's most melodious operas. THERE ARE ENGLISH TITLES so that the plot becomes understandable. This production uses some of Russia's foremost singers. The famous Kirov Ballet is called upon for the big set scenes. The sound is very good. This is an opera rarely performed in the West, and provides an opportunity to sample one of Russia's great cultural achievements.
