Elliot, grieving for his dead mother, is sent to stay with his cousins. There he is haunted by Mary-Ellen, who was once kept prisoner in his room. The loss of her fiance, Orlando Rinaldi, killed in World War I, threatened her sanity - or so everyone thought.

Editorial Reviews

Review

A young boy in America looks on helpless as muggers kill his mother. Grief-stricken, he and his father return to England where Eliot is sent to stay with his father's cousin and her family. There he is haunted by the ghost of a young woman who repeatedly demands the return of the ring of the title, given to her by her fiance, Orlando Rinaldi, who was killed in the First World War. The past and present intertwine as the emotions of the various characters are explored. This is a remarkable story beautifully told, with a startling final twist. (11+ years) (Kirkus UK)

4.0 out of 5 stars Fine, good, great..., May 16, 2005
This review is from: Rinaldi Ring (Contents) (Paperback)
But I have read better.
This review is more in answer to the only existing one than anything else, as I feel that Griffin's Castle is better (also by Jenny Nimmo) than this one.

Do not be discouraged, though - I do like this book a lot - but I feel that you should definitely read other books she has written as well, such as "Griffin's Castle", "Milo's Wolves", and "The Snow Spider".

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a Great book!, February 3, 2005

Now I would'nt want to spoil anything but this is an unusual ghost story, not like the rest of Jenny's books which seem to be about magic and wizards of some sort. Better than Griffins Castle and is a very enjoyable yet sad read.
